This morning I am on the Florida Turnpike northbound, traffic is light, I am in the left lane cruzin' at about 85 when I see in my rear view a silver car comin up fast. I can't tell what it is so I move right and he passes me at about 105. Turns out its a Skyline. Well I figure I can't let this opportunity pass me by so I get on it and pass him, we hit traffic and he regains the lead. I get behind him and I weave with him and finally we settle in at about 95 in the fast lane. Just as things are getting fun , I see a trooper up ahead and he's movin along pretty good. I back off to create some distance, but to my surprise the Skyline is on the troopers tale. I turn to my son and say " this guy is gonna piss that trooper off if he keeps it up" sure enough as we exit a toll plaza the trooper lights him up. I laughed as I sped past and told my son, it's not just about who's fastest but who's the smartest. This goes in my book as another kill.

You can cruise on the tollway at 85 in Florida and not be speeding?

Apparantly so, cause our five car MM convoy enroute to MV IV led by the indomitable Big Al from Alabama went through full fledged speed traps with Camaro chase cars, Big SUV's and an assortment of Ford products at 85 MPH and the troopers didn't even raise their heads. This was a weekday. Yet on the very same stretch of road on the following Sunday, the FHP was pulling people over for doing a couple of miles over the posted speed limit.

Big Al said that sometimes the radar devices are set to 88 MPH, depends on the day, time of day, traffic and so on. Glad we had him in the lead.

What's going on in that state?

I travel the turnpike alot and I try to stay in the 80-85 range and have yet to be stopped. That may just be luck, so I don't endorse anyone doing the same.

thats awesome, i dont see how a punk kid could afford to buy or have a skyline imported. Way to much money.

Skylines are tuners, not ricers, they are very fast, especially the GTR's. The one you saw was a mid 90's.

Honestly, I would love to own a skyline. Way to expensive. would have to be all wheel drive, manual and alot of power.

Obviously not too smart, as you could have just as easily been a FHP MM...and he didnt even acknowledge the real patrol car.

elementary my dear fastcar

Tuners are fast imports, usually more expensive type cars like the honda S2k, toyota supra, or in this case, a nissan skyline.

Ricers are cars which have modifications that are unessary, or an attempt to up the cool factor of a or the pimpmobile of which is being driven. Usually a crappy paint job, racing styled rims, and a coffee can exhaust or if not affordable, just a muffler, to give it that signature 4 banger sound.

The R35 that is supposed to come to the US is going to have a twin turbo V6. So thats not rice

When you look like a complete Troop of the FHP its easy to run hard and get away with it, just keep it below 85-88mph. Pat that was a day I shall remember fondly forever...

I would still like a R34 in the states, they look cooler IMO. Of course if it were between that and a marauder, i'd still take the car that i can get parts for anywhere :D

Yea, the early/mid 90's one you can find pretty easily. My friend was seriously looking into importing one. Buying a used one, about $20k, after the import fees, converting it to LHD, customs and all that fun stuff, it would have been up into the $90's. Not worth it, unless you have the money.

I think your friend might be confused. Japanese Skylines are all over the place up here. You don't have to convert them to LHD to drive them. (unless the USA is different?)Also, there are good examples of late 90s going for around 20 grand CDN. That's about 21 grand US right now.

In Japan, the cars are unlicensable after 10 years. A guy in Vancouver bought about 40 Skylines and Delicas for scrap cost, shipped them over here and sold them at 25 grand each. Since then, we have 4 or 5 more on the road every week. It's weird to see the "passenger" driving, but you get used to it as more and more are around.:)

One of those cars thats been around for years overseas like the mitsu evolutions but never sold here w/o alot of mods just to get dot aproved. I know of people with TME Evo 6's with difrent vins from a junked car.

maybe its just where i live but an s2k are ricers not tuners....stock and even midly modded theyre not terribly fast at all...can you make the fast? yes...but you can make a civic fast also...so i wouldnt consider the s2k a tuner...maybe a miata on roids at best

Seen more well done S2Ks than ricers. NPI stangs are the ones I seen completely riced out.

He's not confused, just picky. He didn't want to settle for an un-licensable one, he wanted like the perfect one. He would drive it RHD, but he really wanted it LHD, hence the conversion and cost. Oh well, he has a few really nice Subie's now, and just bought an '08 Mini Cooper S (that little bugger is fast!) so he's happy.

They do those things occasionally to mess with their buddies.

whats the fastest time of a civic you remember? Ive seen some run 10's that were full blown turbo's and big MT's in the front.

I could build a buggy that could beat a civic, just gotta find me a motor that could do that ;)

5-7 second car is what you'd get in a domestic

10 second in a civic

9's in a marauder :)

you guys kinda missed what i was saying...and the fast i ever saw a civic go is extremely high 9's...what iment with my orignal post is that ANYTHING can be fast, it just takes alot of money to do it...you will get much better results with the smae money spent in a v8 vs a 4-banger anyday.

The mid-to-late 90's Skyline R34, and the GT-R variant, are two of the best looking cars EVAR. They are the only Japanese car I would seriously consider owning (OK, maybe an S2000, but that's it). All Skylines from about 1993-2002 had an inline-6 motor, turbocharged in the upmarket versions. The new V35, built from 2001-on (in the US it's called the Infiniti G35) is hella ugly, has a V6, and (IMHO) is an inferior car to the earlier ones.

RF also to add the Skyline's are actually TT and not single. Not to mention who wouldn't want AWD with AWS (all wheel steering.) I would own a Supra. Kid in town has one converted to a big single T-61E pushing in the area of 600-700rwhp.
