Mercury Marauder LX Sport?

Just browsin' the local sales on autotrader within 25 miles of me to see if any MM's were for sale, and I came across this.

Look at picture number 6. Has an LX Sport shifter? What's up with that? Damaged and replaced with whatever the dealer had? That part was stolen? Not to mention, to me, the steering wheel just looks wierd, like it's crooked or something.

I Own An 02 C-vic Sport & An 04 Marauder & I Have Had A Few People Tell Me They Like The Chrome Crown Vic Shifter Better Than The Marauder's. It Was Just Probably Just Swapped For Personal Taste.

Marty's car came with a chrome shifter bezel. Production line error or short on parts at the time.

I purchased my DTR new with the Chrome around the shifter,I beleive a few
got the chrome for whatever reason. When I got mine they had 2 identical DTRs so I had to choose 1. I took the one with the Chrome bezel because I thought it looked better.

The only bad thing about the chrome piece is that you get glare off of it when the sun hits it. I have all my windows & the top of my windshield tinted in my crown vic & I still get glare off of it.

I think it looks good, but don't know about changing mine...It's cool though, that some were produced that way... just another " one off " production by Ford.

Oh really? I had no clue that some MM's had them on it. I too like it, but I don't think it fits the "dark" appeal that a black MM gives off. The only chrome I like on my car, are the rims and tips lol.

Interesting that it came "stock" on some MMs, must have been another deal like the smooth vs perforated steering wheel covers.

I have one from a sport but it will be Monday before I can look at it again. I bought a complete interior and did not use the shifter. I would trade for the UPS charges and get your old one back so mine is complete.

A lot of owners changed them out for the sport shifter chrome pieces. Do a search, there should be more than one thread on this.

Personally, I don't like it. Too flashy for the interior when the rest is dark.

The assembly line will install whatever they have on hand or it could just have been a mistake.

Hideous...dealers around here were installing those goofy pimp lids to get the cars off the lot...selling to the "traditional" customer. Anyone miss the 1970's? I know I don't :D

When the production line was changed over from '03 model 300A to 300B in Oct-Nov '02, about 15 cars were delivered with all sorts of different configurations. They had 300A seats, windshield, gas cap remote, underhood lights, but, had traction control and mini-spare. Marty has chrome bezel, I don't --early posts mention these differences. They are not consumer modified. Maury

If the chrome shifter bezel was matched up with chrome door handles and inserts, It would have some continuity, otherwise, I think it would look out of place.
Our '02 GMQ has the chrome shifter bezel and the gear indicator window appears to be of better material.
On the Marauder the gear indicator is fogged up from cleaning it with windex(alcohol).
