Good question. But, I'd hate losing my factory cig lighter for operating the occasional electronic item (like my Vericom VC-200). So, I'm going to keep it ;)

Most move it to the Pass Side of the Gauge Panel.

I used a Forstner bit to drill out the cig lighter. We all have the power point in the center cubby available.

Here is an older thread with pictures, click me (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=22855&highlight=forstner).

There was a forstener bit being mailed around at one point, too.

A hole saw will do it and will require sanding/filing.

A skilled hand with a dremel can do it, too.

Just move the power point to the side.

I used a hole-saw because I had one...it did require a bit of filing and shaping, but the result was acceptable.

I used a jigsaw, took less than a minute.

How are you guys using a holesaw with no material for the pilot bit?

Clamp a small piece of scrap wood behind the existing cig lighter hole.

you should also use an angle ring, otherwise the gauge will point more to the passenger.
The back of the angle ring is flat, for better fit file the back to shape to fit the panel, test position and angle to best suit your viewing of the gauge from the driver's seat.

A 2" circular drill bit and a dremel with a 3/8" round sanding end for finishing @ 2 1/16".
