View Full Version : Tune Thread Comparison?

Is there a Thread that compares the various tunes that are available form the various vendors here?
I find everything interesting and how some have options the others do not etc...
I don't want to know who is best, everyone is best in their own way, I do want to know who does what though, without posting in each sub vendor forum and or offending someone.
SO who makes a tune support through this forum and how does it compare to the others sold through here?
I am particularly interested in adjusting park/neutral idle as well as ingear idle. Not having torque converter lock up at 30-40 MPH when driving up little hills and having to floor it to accelerate 5 mph. I like having the no shifting at times, big noise and the car moves about well when slowly accellerating but not when I floor it and it doesn't shift and I get stuck in the sweet spot. Happens to me at 40 to 60 MPH mergings.
Other times I would like to accelerate moderately without suddenly being in my passing gear the engine kicks down and I'm flying around a corner trying to keep the Marauder from sliding off the corner. (I have done that twice both times I was driving like I was still in my Subie)
I suppose that is why we all want tunes.
I currently use 3.55 but would like to upgrade to 4.10. Would also like to have a stock kick back down setting option. A tuner with a display would be nice and option for tuning individual things eventually.
Who has does what?

I have had BOTH Lidio's and DR's Tunes.
Both are / were great!!
Lidio's Tune gives a great DD shift schedule, and a good power increase.
DR's gives a a firmer shift, and a good power increase.
Just pick one.

They both are SCT tuners. Pick one, you can't go wrong.

Do they both work with our wonderful 91 Octane gas?

They can calibrate to the gas you wanna use.
Move up to 93 octane, you'll never look back.

If you don't specify, Lidio will send you three tunes..3.55/91 octane, 3.55/93 octane, and 4.10/93 octane. All loaded on the Xcal2 and super easy to load. The Xcal2 will save your stock tune automatically before loading the custom ones.

Also, just fyi...Lidio does not ship to Canada, so you'll need to have it shipped to someone you know stateside, then make arrangements from there....

I have a SCT x cal II. I would like to try a different tune. What does it take to get a tune down loaded from a different vendor in my sct xcal II ?

You'll have to call the different vendor and ask. Do you have the computer cable so you can transfer the emailed file? First, did you ask the vendor you bought it from to make some changes? That would probably be less expensive.

I have an SCT Eliminator Switch chip, with positions for up to 4 different tunes. I only have 2 tunes in use at the moment. One for 93 octane, and one for 100 octane. Big SOTP difference between the two. Both tunes are custom dyno tunes from Lidio. The tune alone changed the car completely.
My first mod ever was the 93 octane tune, and 4.10 gears. Went from a 15.19 @ 93, to a 14.23 @ 97 overnight. Almost a full second.
Good luck with your choice. It's all about what YOU want to do with your car.

Yes I do have a USb cable and no I didn't ask the vendor I purchased it from to make any changes. I 'am aware the vendor I purchased the tuner from will make minor changes I believe for free.

My current tune is screwed up so i don't need it saved.
I wouldn't mind getting a OEM stock tune, a 3.55 91 Octane & a 4.10 91 Octane.
As Chader said 91 Octane is our best gas, without having to hunt for something better, or purple.
Chader ?????? what?
Doesn't Wes sell Lidio tunes and ship to Canada?
Does Dennis sell 91 Octane 3.55 & 4.10 and OEM 3.55 tunes?

I think you should get a livewire from Reinhart.
1) It will improve your shift shcedule.
2) He ships to Canada
3) It provides an informational display like the Scangauge or Aeroforce
4) It holds several tunes.
5) YOU can change the shift schedule to your liking with a PC and free downloadable software. Mess with it all you want 'till you like it.
No one makes a tune the addresses every driving environment. Each tuner develops the best tune he can. Often this is based on location. Florida is flat with lots of stop and go traffice mixed with some country roads. DR's tune reflects this. I have never driven a Lidio tune, but I imagine his is reflective of his environment/experience.
Therefore, get the tuner and a base tune and plan on adjusting the shift YOURSELF to suit YOUR environment. Learn slowly by making adjustments and trying them, then back to the PC. You can't really hurt anything by adjusting the shifting in small increments while learning.
Stop asking who is 'best' or even 'best for you' get the TOOL and learn to use it to MAKE it 'best' for you.

I was wondering about the livewire but was just wondering what it does that the Xcalibrator 2 does not? Other than look pretty.
Does the DR price for the live wire include a tune or 3?

Do any of these tunes take into consideration the altitude difference. Calgary is about 3000 feet above sea level. Florida is about 25.
Not sure what level Lidio is at.
What about cold weather etc...
As for making all these long distance phone calls, well I hate talking on the phone.
I either go in person, or I use email/web or forums.

OK so Chader is actually in Strathmore, but how bad can a long distance call be from Calgary?

The live wire seems like the tune I would try.
Just cause I myself can adjust to how I drive.

Wow there really are two distinct camps here.
The DR camp and the Lidio camp.
Also a bunch of fence sitters.
Although everyone agrees that I should buy a tune.
From what I have read on Lidio's tunes he is going away from display units and heading to the LED's on a box. Makes it easy to use but not for adjusting stuff.
The Livewire looks very impressive, I will have to research it somemore. Only one so-so report about it so far.
For those fence sitters, i'm getting 3 or 4 PM's a day, many contridictory.
The pm senders know who they are. It is hard to make up one's mind when I think i'm on to something one way or even a solution to many problems only to have a suggestion that the idea is not the best. etc...
I'm wondering If this thread was such a good idea after all.
However, I do feel better informed, and need to read some more then I will pick one.
Sorry Chader I will have to wait, I never jump in on anything with out researching it to death first. Although if you have the time, we could meet (depends when) I'm more busy now that I don't have a job, then I ever have been when I did.
What I want and what I need are two different things. What I want is everything. What I need is to raise my Idle.
Thanks for all the help I will keep reading up on this and pick one soon. Anyone with further comments fire them in here, I like lots of Information, even if it just looks like I'm dithering, I really do absorb it all.

I would not recomend the Livewire for the extra money.Lidio is not a fan of it either. When you buy a flash device with a tunners(Lidio or DR)program you are paying for the tune that they made for you...that is what they do for a living. It would not be my advice to try to think you could do a better job of making a tune then one of our vendors who do it every day.....at least not with my car???
chader
10-22-2007, 07:38 PM
most people in the know will tell you to fix the idle problem first before you add more variables(ie a tunner)your car is stock and it should be able to not stall when stock??a tunner is an enhancer not a repair...imo
Aren Jay
10-22-2007, 07:50 PM
As noted I have tried to fix anything that could be causing the idle problem.
As far as those working on it can tell the tune may be the cause/solution. (previous owner may have fiddled with this too, I don't know.)
However I don't want to spend $450 on a Ford tune when I can get the same thing and more from one of our MM.net vendors for the same money.
If it doesn't fix it, I can always return the tune to what it was set at and carry on with fixing it and then apply the tune again later on. Although everything everyone on here has suggested has been checked. Except for the oil change. But that will happen soon too.

Maybe that was old info after all, with a recent update to parts of the info. It was in one of the sticky's.
