Before i start, i'd like to say i DID search this, but i still have questions.
First off, i only found 2 threads that really talk about removing the silencer.
What i'd like to know is, A. What would be the best thing i can find to plug the hole up? I saw one guy used like a plumbing cap or something.
Also, how do you get the stupid clamp off? Its like crimped on.

Ryan I contemplated messing with this too, but then also didnt know how to take the clamp off without destroying it. I guess any lid from a jar that relative size would work.

Yep just get a pair of metal cutters cut the band and pull the silencer out. I used a cap off a jar of zip ties that I got somewhere a long time ago. If you want the cap I had just PM me your address and I'll send it to you since I have a JLT now and won't ever put the stock tube back on.

It's a 3" plug from Home Depot, with a band clamp to ensure a tight fit. The wing nut is how it's tightened up.

What it looks like with a cap on. After I put the cap on I ended up painting the intake tube because the cap was white and looked really out of place, once painted it looked like it was part of the tube.

personally just wait and buy a jlt....what happens a couple years down the road if you choose to sell your car or trade it in, wouldnt you rather have the stock intake tube to throw on there if you traded the car in?

So most of you guys would go with a jlt, over say a K&N?

Yes it's a common plumbing test plug. That expanded with the band clamp for added rigidity should work very well.

It is an expandible rubber plug which is increased in diameter by tightening the wing nut. As used to repair rusted out core plugs and stuff like that... Similar to a Cummins engine oil fill hole plug.

Ah, no. K&N works fine for me.

Its technical name is a Helmholz Resonator. It's designed to dampen the acoustic pulses created by the engine in the intake tract to reduce noise.
Part of Ford's NVH testing (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). God forbid that Grandpa, who's hard-of-hearing anyway, should detect some sound from under the hood and think his car is defective. Ford applied the same reasoning when they made all their oil pressure gauges non-functional. :shake:
