does any one know how to remove the shifter assy? got an idea for a little project.

Factory DVD manual, the ones that FORD supplies to dealer service dept.
I got it when I worked in FORD service.

thanks larry thats helps a little but how bout the removal of the shifter handle its self and how the OD button and the lock ( called it a lock, the thing you press to switch gears) comes apart

The service book says to pull the plastic part of the shift handle down to expose the connector for the O/D button and the two screws holding the leather part of the shifter on. If it is anything like my T-Bird once the handle clears the internal shaft of the shift at least the gear button should be able to be pulled out. Also, if it is like my T-Bird, you DO NOT want to pull out the O/D button. They are hell to get back in. I hope this helps.

Please refer to the appropriate vehicle shop manual to determine location of the front air bag sensors.
The side air bag sensors are located at or near the base of the B-pillar.
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
Disconnect the battery ground cable. Wait at least one minute before proceeding with the procedure to allow the backup power supply to deplete its energy. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 (file:///C:/TSO/tsocache/LARRY-PC_8736/S3A~us~en~leftside=S3ASE10L.ht m&rightside=S3ASE10R.htm&market=us&lang=en~gen~2col.htm).
Remove the instrument panel finish panel and disconnect the electrical connector.
Lift the console finish panel and remove.
Push shift handle bezel down and disconnect TCS harness.
Remove the two shift handle retaining screws and remove the shift handle.
Lift the indicator bezel and remove the bulb.
