It has been awhile since I had took the MM on a road trip. My sister had a baby shower on Sunday in Palm Springs Ca. My wife had to work so it was a solo trip. I have lived in Las Vegas for the last 12 years and my parents and sister still live in Ca. I take the I15 south to just past the state line and then get onto some back roads for the rest of the trip. The back roads take me thru Amboy and 29 Palms with a small portion being old Rt.66. I know these roads very well due to 100s of trips to and from most of the way the road is two lanes with a 55 mph speed limit. (the only time I have ever done 55 is while towing a trailer not in the Marauder) So with out the wife I was able to open the MM up, most of the way I was at about 105 mph. She got to 127mph at one point untill my chip made me back off. She was still pulling hard when I hit the speed limit of the Jet Chip ( yes I know I am saving for a real tune) I but 500 miles on her in one day driving it like I stole it. That is why I bought this car to fly thru the desert at 100+mph in style. :burnout:

I saw the high side of the 130's recently while chasing a crotch-rocket back from Biketoberfest.

Crotch-rockets are the only thing that will egg me on to race/chase them, guess they think I am a cop and see if I can catch them. I enjoy seeing the whites of their eyes when I am still right behind them 130+. During my recent dyno run, locked in 3rd gear the tech guy got the car up to 149-150mph then shut it down. Running 255/55-18 tires makes the effective rear gear around 3.50. As far on the road 140+ while showing off my sexy rear to a Chrysler 300 SRT-8 lol.

For the love of god dont let the trans shift into 4th at WOT, you'll kill it!

Why can't they take WOT in 4th? I just don't understand it.

Why can't they take WOT in 4th? I just don't understand it.

The OD band cant handle many shifts at WOT due to is extremely thin friction surface.
Its designed for low rpm shifts.

Whenever I need to go WOT while cruising on the highway or at any speed where I would have the O/D on I always turn off the O/D, let it downshift and then go.

for crying out loud ---he was referring to his limiter--not his trans shift condition or point---...what you were replying to and thought was dropping down into third and putting it back into 4th at WOT--Correct?

A new member learned two things today.

That's all that's important.

Mine did 125 stock and I got it up to 136 a few years ago after a tune. It was still pulling at 136, but I had to slow for a corner. I think it'll do 150 now with the 4:10 gear and I think they do 160+ with the stock gear.

With a tranny upgrade, is OD WOT still bad?

If the OD was off and I know you have 4:10 gears, did ya happen to look down at the tach?

Id be willing to bet you were in the 7500rpm range at 137mph.

Glad I got your signature by the 'as is no warranty'

I learned the hard way about the O/D and WOT. Poor thing hunts back and forth between 3rd and 4th like a maniac. Had to shut it offf for fear of leaving it in the road behind me.

150 standing still is A LOT different than against a 150 MPH head wind! Our cars have huge frontal areas, and suffer badly at high speed. Most NA cars have trouble going faster than 130-140, and that's with a lot of track room.

I just cant see how you could go 137 in 3rd.
And I know the rev limiter in that car is 6500, so something just doesnt add up

I did the math. If he had 3.55's and stock tires, RPM at 137 would have been 5869.

4.10's would give 6778.

I do at high or WOT fairly regularly. What should I expect, Zack? It's Art Carr L2, for whatever that's worth. The 3-4 shift is stout and quick.

I'll have it looked at when symptoms begin to arise, if you'll let me know what they are....

Kevlar band or not, its still very thin.

It either works or it doesnt, you dont get a warning Rich

Oh I know their is a big difference I'm just saying the car reached that speed so with enough room it could happen on the road. I've had the needle past 140 with a fair amount of rpm left.

Dragcity
10-24-2007, 08:34 AM
I think the point is that even though you have RPM left in 4th gear, the engine does not have enough torque to overcome the drag placed on the vehicle at speeds in excess of 140 - 150, while trying to drive such a large gear (4th)

Before our tune, we were electronically limited. With the speed limiter removed we are "Drag Limited" (Drag coeffecient).

Add the S/C or Turbo and things change a bit. As Tom Doan has, even with a 3.27 rear, he has plenty of torque to move all his gears through greater "Drag".

Some cars are literally able to acheive a higher speed in third gear vs. 4th gear due to torque/drag relation.....

Have fun.... Stay safe....

Mine was limited to 127 MPH on the factory tune. I haven't been over that yet. Not many safe places any more.

What is WOT?

Wide Open Throttle. My MM did 120 easily bone stock the day after I bought it. With my mods now (no blower installed yet) I can easily peg the speedo. I've done it only once. MDRider, take it easy to learn all you need to know about your car. It won't be fun once you break it and the repair bill is quite large.

And the best way to overcome drag coefficient is a good wax job and lots of power lol.

I had mine to 145 in 3rd on DR's dyno way below redline, had to stop because his dyno is not supposed to go above 150mph, so my dyno chart is clipped and everyone says I got ripped, I show them that every thing important has happened by 4k. I have the car set up for high speed passing on I -95, Yeah I'm THAT*******,to all the left lane bandits. My car runs 76mph at 2000rpm in 4th, I do not lock out 4th or down shift, just push down on the gas and 430rwt at 2000rpm this car flies from 75 to 140 effortlessly,no down shifting,no WOT. Tom

Well stickers add power, right? You just have to remember to really buff hard and good on the stickers. I heard you can squeeze another 4-5hp on top of everything by putting on Turtle Wax ICE per sticker lol.

Completely stock, I hit around 132-133 with O/D off. And it seemed ready to go higher, weere it not for that limiter. Using 3.55's.

With the new tune, still 3.55's I still have to test it out. Gotta find that private road again...

I don't get everyone with these 127-133 MPH top speed bone stock. Our cars were factory rev-limited to 118 or 120 downhill. I hit the limiter driving my car home :)

When I got my marauder the fastest I could go was 125 mph, that is when the top limiter kicked in. I purchased a super chips tuner and took the limiter out. I had it up to 140 no problem...

That may never happen again.
Most everybody I come up against with very few exceptions gives up waay before then.
Gets very lonely going that speed.
