I was wondering what kind of aftermarket mods I could do (if any) that wouldn't void my warranty. My beloved MM is my daily driver, ... for now.
When the warrenty is up ... :D ... it's on!

Thanks!

This subject is one of great interest to many who need to keep the warranty in effect, ( I being one of them). Do a search on mods and you will get all the pertinent information that will help you understand what they do and how they may effect your warranty.

I'm not sure, but I *think* you're allowed to use aftermarket windshield washer fluid. Pretty much everything else, from chips to your choice of motor oil, is liable to void your warranty.

Better think twice before installing that aftermarket tissue dispenser!

If you have a really anal service manager even non-Ford windshield washer could be cause to void a warranty on a particular item. They hate warranty issues sometimes.

I'd say, go talk to your service manager, or several service managers. Get their views or promises in writing. Same with Ford.

Until then, stick with the Karate kid stuff - wax on, wax off.

Petro:

^^^what they all said, with a grain of salt^^^

In THEORY, you can do anything you want to your car, and unless the manufacturer can PROVE that the aftermarket part you installed was the proximate cause of the failure, they have to cover it.

In PRACTICE, well, Ford owns a fleet of lawyers whose sole function in life is to deny warranty claims...you can take them to court, of course...

See where this is going...?

Most of the mods people on here have done are time-tested, proven mods designed by people who know what they are doing...the chance of one of these mods actually causing a major failure is very low...

...BUT...

So, the answer to your question of which mods can you do without voiding your warranty is ...all of them, and NONE of them...do what you are comfortable with...if you blow the engine up now, you will probably have to pay for it, but if you blow the engine up AFTER the warranty, you STILL have to pay for it...so I say go for it and have all the fun now instead of waiting 3 years...

Thanks for the info Overlord. The only problem ( other than not having large sums of money! lol ) is I don't really know a hell of a lot about newer computerized cars. MAF sensors, speed chips, etc. I can re-jet a Holley double-pumper, but all those wires and silicon give me headache just thinking about it. But, I am willing to learn. Does anyone know of any websites or books I can read to bring my wrench turning skills into the 21st century?
I am a helicopter mechanic by trade, but I have the luxury ( or curse? ) of not having to deal with anything remotely electrical.
Thanks a lot everyone! I've been on the site for only 3 days and have learned a lot about my MM.

Beat the piss out of your car, not care, enjoy the crap out of it, do smoky burnouts regularly, then take it to VT when you blow it up, repeat above process.

Warranty is 3 years / 36,000 miles, so it depends on which one you achieve first.
I've noticed a few members on this site are already closing in on 30,000 miles and the Marauder is barely one year old.
For them it's right around the corner that all the fun begins, so you can wait 3 years or take a long driving cruise around the world which is approximately 28,000 miles one-way then you can make up the difference of 8,000 miles easily. Just a thought. ;)

LOL Gonzo,
But, I opted for the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty. but, I dont have a lot of confidance in the dealerships right now. The good news is: I didn't finance the warrenty, I paid cash. so, as long as I cancel before 3 years or 36,000 miles I'll get the $ back.

By the way Gonzo, I used to be in the 24th Infantry (mech) / 3rd Infantry (mech) I was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, but I spent a hell of a lot of time at Ft. Stewart in the field. What unit did you retire out of?
