Pioneer for a limited time is offering the D3 with the Blue Tooth adapter, I pod interconnect cable and the remote control with the package for 750.00. This is the best price on it yet. You save 225.00 with this package. I have two on order so PM me if you want one.

Those are nice, how hard is it to squeeze in? Any trimming?

I think what I would like for the wife's car is something along these lines:

GPS nav system
rear mounted backup camera
Infinity basslink woofer (sized to fit on trunk shelf to left of spare tire)
upgraded speakers for doors & deck
amp(s)
functional with steering wheel controls and OEM trunkmount CD changer

Amps and speakers don't necessarily have to be audiophile grade, she's not that interested in the sound system anyway. She wants the nav system and backup camera. Can this be done?

It requires very little trimming.

The factory CD changer will not interface with the aftermarket systems. I would suggest the MTX Thunderlink instead of the Bass link.

Any aftermarket trunkmount CD changers that would work?

John, I totally agree if keeping the stock radio, but after having done both, I totally suggest my custom box with the MTX 5500 10" and the 300 amp. It an ENORMOUS difference in sound, looks better, and takes up no more space.

Brian, seriously, call me.

The Pioneer AVIC-D3 in-dash navigation system comes with two DVD-ROMs containing a massive Tele Atlas database, enabling the unit to provide a gigantic network of turn-by-turn routable roads. Within seconds, the unit’s extremely fast processor calculates multiple routes and provides directions to destinations via the graphic map interface and voice guidance. In addition, you’ll have access to 12-million points of interest throughout the United States and Canada, meaning the nearest gas station, restaurant, or ATM is always only a finger’s touch away.
Sharp Look. Smooth Fit.
In addition to being multifunctional, the AVIC-D3 was designed with ease and style in mind. The unit features a “double-DIN” size that’s standard in many vehicles, providing a perfect placement in the dashboard for a fit and finish similar to factory systems. And the integration gets even better with the AVIC-D3’s multi-color illumination, which gives you the ability to match the interface to the colors of your dashboard, or your mood.

Couple questions. What would the cost be to add the XM reciever and what is involved with getting the steering wheel controls to work. I use them all the time. I know there is some module to set up and it use the remote IR signal. Is it reliable?

I have been toying with the idea of getting one for about a year now. This might just push me to the edge to do it already.

Also, what would an upgrade to the Z2 be? Is it really worth the money to get the larger screen, voice command, more memory and Detailed city maps?

I am mostly looking for the navigation part of it, since i do sales and am getting sick of my book/map

A Pic module. Requires 3 wire connections and 1 plug in.

It's not IR any more. It plugs directly into the radio and listens to the hard-wired electrical signal from the steering wheel.

The D3 requires the disc to be in the slot while navigating. If you have XM or a changer or IPod interface, then the extra $ for a Z2 is just a waste (IMO). Z2 has an internal hard drive to store music and Nav info. I think the D3 looks best in the car.
I am mostly looking for the navigation part of it, since i do sales and am getting sick of my book/map

D3 with XM is the answer for you. If you review the older posts in John's forum, you'll see the install. Also, If you want, you can send me all the harnesses for pre-wiring and I'll return them ready to go, plug-and-pray.

ANY of the Pioneer in-dash nav systems will be a lot SAFER for you. Visit www.pioneerelectronics.com (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/www.pioneerelectronics.com) to compare features in depth.

My opinion is based on my OWN usage. Different features my have higher or lower priorities for each individual.
