We just hired a new kid at work yesterday, he was outside waiting for someone to let him in when I rolled up. The FIRST thing he says to me is, "My car will toast that pretty little Marauder." I'm like, "Who the ***** are you?" "I'm the new kid." I'm thinking to myself, that's ok then, I'll work his ass off tonight while I train him! Anyway, I told him my mods, he told me what he is driving. 1999 Chevy Camaro Z28. I'm thinking, eh, I could have a chance, especially since it was an auto. I know '98 was the last year for the LT1's and we all know how godly those LS1's are. He had an SLP lid, Borla exhaust and a shift kit. When we left at 11 last night, we hopped on 495, went from a roll of 40mph, had the OD off, it was funny because both of our cars cranked it back down into 1st as soon as we hit it. He pulled on me until I was in 2nd around 4000rpm's, then we were neck and neck. He kept up with me, but he was NO match for the DOHC power! 3rd, 4th, and finally OD he dropped back to just about my rear bumper and I shut it down around 135 or else I'd miss my exit lol. So, that was my fun and excitement for the week, I can't wait to see what he says today at work. God, I love this car and I can't imagine what she's gonna do once the blower is on.

Yeah, good story. Just don't know if I trust our Interstate system that well to get up to those speeds.

Thanks guys! I'm at work right now. First thing he said to me was, "Damn! That 4 door can move." "Yea, I know, that's why I own it."

Your 3.55's made the difference. Makes me wanna go back just for the top end.

I hate doing this but GM stopped using the LT1 in 1997. My 98 TA had the first run LS1. He needed an LS6 intake and a tune to be problem. Good Kill.

Thanks Black, I could have sworn the LT's stopped in '98. Thanks for the correction.

Also thank you guys for the compliments! I have a feeling though if he had a 6 spd, it would have been no match. On a side note, does anyone know the gear ratio for a '99 Z28?

The '98 T/As had a 3.23 or a 2.73. Luckily it was only a Z28, now if it had been a SS or WS6 it would have been another story.

I wouldn't have even tried to race an SS or WS6. My friend at work has a '00 WS6. Something about spinning the tires until 4th with TC on gets me.

Also due to the way the TC is set up the automatics are quicker off the line. I use to launch mine in 2nd then throw it into 3rd. One time I went 45* to the right and still beat the 6 speed SS I was racing.
