View Full Version : Very Dissapointing for Me.....

While I was in Atlanta this weekend for the Fat Car Shootout, the vision in my right eye started to fail again.

This is a scary situation for me and very disappointing as I finally thought I was on the mend after months of surgery and treatment.

So, it looks like I will be starting all over again with the surgery/treatments next week.

A few thoughts/prayers would be appreciated.

I lost my right eye to a malignant melanoma 12 years ago...I have been averaging 40000 miles a year in my Panthers and trucks with no problems ... added some extra mirrors... It is amazing how well the rest of the body adapts... I can hear better..cars approaching from my blind side etc...Good luck to you with your problem and may you recover quickly...

That is encouraging news. You know exactly how I feel.

The down side to this disease is that it is usually "symmetrical" -- what hits the left eye hits the right eye. That is the truly scary part.

Best of luck and will pray for you.

Please seek a second opinon. All Drs, even the best are human.

My grandfather was one of the first EENT Drs in the country.

A good client who I have known since 1989 is legally blind. He is a realestate lawyer and owner of an oil field service company. His wife has been his reader since college.

He is a car nut and I have taken him for a ride in my Marauder. He hunts, goes to ball games, does every thing but drives.

We have had several car discussions.

I never think of him as blind. He is anything but blind.

I had elective eye surgeries a few years ago, something I had been praying for medical science to come up with for decades. I was very much looking forward to it. When it came down to that first surgical morning, laying prepped for surgery on the stretcher, I was still scared sheetless. All I can say is:

May the inventors and manufacturers of the drug Versed be forever blessed.

I hope someone reads these posts to him.

Marauderbug still around? She doesn't post anymore.

She's around -- she just doesn't post. For some reason, she hates my cars!! :P

It was a very rough day. The surgery was very long (2 hours) and the initial news was not great. My retina is in rough shape. The doctor said that if this surgery doesn't work, we will only get one more chance and that each time he goes inside my eye, the chances for better vision get slimmer.

I came home this evening and took pain killers because my head felt like it was in a vice. On top of that I had severe nausea (a common side effect from the procedure he was using). So now I am flight restricted again.

I will not lie, I am starting to get very depressed.

And, if you are wondering what I am doing up, the answer is I can't sleep!

I keep praying for better results and I ask you guys to as well.

2003 MIB

We will certainly crank up the prayer effort in these parts. I'm very concerned that the depression you are starting to feel could turn into a self fulfilling prophecy. I can’t imagine what you are feeling but certainly empathize with the horrible year you’ve had with this issue and Stan’s passing (Hell, who knows what else might be out there you didn't share).
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
I hate bumper sticker advice but believe the following:<o:p></o:p>
“One chance is better than no chance” and “It ain’t over until it’s over”. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Ocular surgery techniques are one of the fastest evolving areas of medicine and what might seem like a last chance is just a pause while the technology catches up with your needs. That’s the worst case scenario, Marty- the best case is that although the initial results are less than ideal that your body repairs itself. Everybody heals at a different rate and result. It’s not all science.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
So what should be on tap for today? Get your Dr. to call in a script for some Phenigrin for the nausea (no known painkiller interactions) and tell Marauderbug she’d better learn to love these cars- she might be doing your short term driving.<o:p></o:p>

Hey Marty,

Just saw this thread. That really sucks. I'm glad there are treatment options and I know you are, even if they aren't going so well yet. I know I'd be down about this if it was me. We are human and can't help these kind of things. I'll pray, for it can help.

It's funny because I've really been thinking about Burgers and Wings. I haven't been to the Candle Light since we were last there and I am well overdue. 774-3604 is still my cell. Give me a call, I'm hungry all hours. Even a diner works.
