I have been surfing and googling, all day about this...and I have found very little.
I wanna know what is going on with the CROWN VICTORIA for 2009.....
I see in places that it is getting the mustang platform, then I look at others and see that is is supposed to get the Five-hundred platform and become front wheel drive. Does anyone know anything solid about this?

Also saw that the GM is scheduled for changes for 2009 as well. I figured, this site being one big info source on all things PANTHER, this question sholuld be asked.
It would be a crying shame if this thing either goes away, or get a front wheel layout. If it isn't broke... don't fix it. In my opinion, it the quinticential american sedan. Power, smooth ride, Rear wheel drive, and solid like a truck...I will own nothing other than a Panther.

Crown Vic is fleet only starting in '08. Taxi, police, maybe limo?

Grand Marquis is still available, but I don't think it can be had with bucket seats.

Panther platform is on its way out, rumors are 2012 is it but it may be sooner.

Ford is run by idiots.

edit: Posted '09 for fleet sales, meant to say '08, changed it...

As much as I hate the Chargers, they seem to be winning the police guys over.

With 345 HP, who wouldn't want one?

I can't believe the new P71 are STILL so anemic. 250 HP? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? What a bunch of IDIOTS. They won't even put the Mustang motors into them. They should honestly have the 5.4 3 valve motors, and should match the Dodge power output, at least. Shame on Ford, as usual. Always too little, too late. Idiots! :mad2:

The V8 in the Police Charger is an option. It really boosts the price of the car compared to a CVPI

I was under the impression, based on appearance...that the Chargers that the cops have were the Mid 3.5 liter V6 engine...I have seen several GT Mustangs used by the state troopers, And A few Chevrolet Pickups...un marked one, and one that was marked but it was a white Crew Duelie. Coludn't believe it.

The Dodge's are winning over police agencies across the country. Faster, brake better, handle better in dry, and wet, snowy weather, etc. The trunks are larger, and they handle the added weight fantastically. Furthermore; the install time for the Dodge's in regards to lights, computers, low-jack, sirens is LESS than HALF the amount of time it takes for a CV. Our fleet managers love them, they say its a joy to furnish one in comparison for a CV. Dodge did do one thing right also, they added heavy duty bladders in front of the tank even though the gas tank is already positioned over the axle, not like the CV which is in front. I was always an advocate for Ford building a "Police only" vehicle.

Where did you get that information?

The Charger does not have a larger trunk, and it has even less space if it's ordered with a full size spare, which is not a standard item.

Installation of items on the CV varies with optional packages and the CV offers more variables in this than the Charger.

CVPIs are rear end crash tested to 75 mph, the Chargers are not, neither is the Chevrolet.

Don't be fooled, the Police charger is no more of a "Police only" vehicle than the CVPI is

I would doubt that ANY car has more trunk room than a Panther...

I spoke to a Baltimore City cop, who has a Chevy Impala, and asked him how they liked them,in comparison to CV...
This was his reply " we hate them, they are Horrible cars".

The Charger has the least amount of trunk room compared to the Impala and CVPI

I don't think there is any 2009 info, but if you look on the Ford Fleet site there is info on the 2008. I'd guess 2009 won't be too much different

he is a police officer, thats where.

2009 panther? not going to happen. it looks like they will do theysame to the CV as they are the ranger and kill it with hopes of a 1 year lay off until its return. the new "CV" will be the size of the new Taurus (Five Hundered).

well, nothing definitive re panthers for next year. St Thomas is just retooled for the 2008 yes 2008 town car...and the greatest probablilty is that all three panthers will continue unchanged thru the 2010 model year and then the plant will close. The drop to one shift and some overtime to keep busy. The 2008 CV and GM have been pouring off the line there at STAP since MAY 7...yes, they have been in production for over 6 months..and there is a 16 week backlog on CVPI. Go to blueovalnews.com and check production. Making more CV than the Taurus..for sure. When the TC gets going on 3 Jan 08, there will be overtime galore. That is my 2 cents for now.

A real quick Google shows the charger at 16.2 Cubic Feet and the Panther at 20.6.

I know sometimes the CF can be misleading if its not all "usable", but certainly it is in the panther platform.
