Who's car was this? Had to be a member here.

Also, what's with the blue-colored trim on the dash and doors??

Notice the mfg date? 10/02. I wonder where this car is in sequence of blue mfg? Mine was born in Feb '03.

According to my list from Ford, Dale's car is a Black with the code of UA for paint color = BLACK. This car was Dale's first Marauder - Black. Yes, his signature says BLUE, but your signature updates in all threads, new and old, once you change it. Also, 1of328 ran the OASIS on Dale's number and posted in the Build thread that it was a Black. Same discussion then.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I didn't think de-contenting started until after January 2003, and I was told the run of DBPs didn't start until the latter part of '03.

Mary,

What is the color code for DBP.

Also, Dale sold his Black, and currently owns a DBP. Is that his Blue on eBay?

SCCHIt's a pretty sure bet that the eBay car is not Dale's. Dale's in OH.

DX is the color code for BLUE

UA = BLACK

JP = Silver Birch

JL = DTR

That most certainly is NOT Dale's DBP. Dale's current DBP was my first Marauder and it is much nicer than the defiled example that is currently on Ebay.

His DBP has a build date somewhere in 6/2003. As mentioned, the VIN mentioned above is for Dale's former black 300A (which I actually currently own).

Ok so how do we know it is the first blue one? I'm not saying the other one is since it was a black one, but how do we know that is the first day the Blues started to be built and that there was only one built that day?

The first Blue was a one of - test run or pre-production, if you will.....mass production didn't start until 12/9/02. How do I know? As I said above "According to my list from Ford."

As a pre-production vehicle is it included in the 328 figure of blue production Marauders?

Is the list from ford a list of all the vins, as in something that could be broken down and we could determine our car is ____ of _____ ?

Sorry.....my apologies. I found one earlier BLUE...built 8/8/02 with a moonroof. 630048

Both pre-productions are counted in the 328 total production. It's not my place to definitively number the cars. Someone from Ford will have to do that.

Carfax shows a "Minor" accident with another vehicle in Wayne Co, Michigan on 12/3/03.

Was a corporate fleet vehicle for 38 months in Michigan.

Also shows "12/18/2002 NICB Vehicle manufactured
and shipped to original dealer", not quite the same as the door sticker.

Dear paul,

The damage must of been minor, we did not identify it and the customer that
traded it in was not aware of it either. ( he was not the oringinal owner)

Hey all - check out this thread from the last time this car showed up on AutoTrader: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26670

Appears collective decision was to pass on the car - had a DUB decal indicating past presence of 20"+ rims, factory subwoofer was gone, extra wiring came into trunk.

And it spent the first three years and 36,294 miles of its life in Michigan - snowy/salty winters!!!!

Does anyone know what the car sold for in Apr 06?

Paul

I visited the dealer today, was tempted by the photos and the mileage. My blue has 81K on it, so I was thinking I could pick up this fresher, earlier blue, swap my performance mods over (maybe swap the blue-painted trim pieces too), and then sell the older one and come out with a younger blue, the 2nd blue built, a pre-production blue, for a modest differential investment. I left without making an offer, not even a low one.

To say the 2nd blue has had a hard life is an understatement. I would be hard pressed to find even one component on it which is in better condition than its twin on my existing car. I was right about the salt exposure - virtually every piece of unpainted metal in the engine compartment and undercarriage have surface rust and corrosion to varying degrees.

The accident report obviously understated the extent of damage, yet the dealer tried to tell me the person who traded it in claimed it was only a minor impact to a bumper. The leading edges of both front doors, and the corresponding facing edges of the fenders, show many chips of paint having been knocked off. I think they hit each other, hard. The brackets to which the front doors are bolted show the paint on the trailing edges to have been hammered off - it looks whitish in the pics below (I think they were hammered to put them back where they were before the impact). The inner fascia of the right front fender has had large pieces cut away, I presume as part of the body work. You can see it when the door is open and you look down inside with a flashlight. I didn't look inside the drivers fender. The body moulding (under the 4.6 Interceptor fender badges) on the drivers side was placed too far forward in the original ebay pics. I told the dealer about that by email yesterday, and when I saw the car in person today it was evident the moulding had been pulled off and then stuck back in a more correct position. Had to have been done by hand, since it is now slightly cupped.

Car has numerous paint chips and scratches, some surface rusting in the chips. Car has had a half-azz repaint done, long ago, before the current chips and scratches were created. They even painted the lower trim, below the doors, which on my car is black plastic. And the paint has come off this plastic in some spots. There is a 3inch by 3/8-1/2 inch bubble on the rear bumper cover, which is hidden when the trunk is closed.

The trunk has a grand marquis organizer, the open top kind. Space saver spare. The factory sub, amp, and bracket for same are gone. Has CD changer, but I didn't look to see if it might be operable or not. Inside of trunk lid has 4-5 1/2"-5/8 "holes drilled, I presume for mounting something long-since removed. Holes do not go through exterior at least.

The package tray has several large holes in the center where something was once mounted, then removed. It has numerous dirt stains in a pattern mirroring the underlying speaker grills. The window switch in the RR door does not work.

The seat belt on right side of backseat has large reddish-brown stain. Reminiscent of dried blood, but could be something else (I hope so). The rear of the center console has a lot of paint sc***** off, and pieces of the grill in it are broken out. The RR door latch drags on the post when the door is opened/closed.

The center console internal storage compartment wiggles like a table with one leg shorter than the others. The sunglass holder in the overhead console sticks when you close it (when closed, you can push it up into itself a 1/2 inch, normally when you let go it drops into place, with this car it stays there).

The painted carbon-fiber trim in the dash to the right the steering column has a couples of dents and scratches which don't appear in the ebay photos, but are obvious from an oblique viewing angle. There is a small, but inappropriate, gap between this trim piece and the bottom of the passenger airbag cover. The glove compartment door catches almost don't stop the door when opened fully. The blue-painted trim is just that - the stock trim pieces were spray painted with DBP. They did a decent job, removed the parts before spraying, but is definitely the stock plastic with a coat of paint.

The radio looks like it isn't quite big enough for its location. The plastic trim surrounding it has many scrapes and scuffs on the lower portion - I'm sure a different head unit was here, and then replaced with a close match to a stock one.

The passenger side view mirror remote mechanism does not work. The mirror housing has a chunk taken out of the paint from hitting something.

The valves clattered on start up. No oil smoke from the exhaust at startup, or when idling, didn't notice any smoke when revved or while driving. Valve train was more quiet than on my car. Once running, it sounded solid and ran o.k. The car appears stock, except for magnaflow mufflers (still has stock manifolds, four cats, and resonated tips). Shifting seemed o.k. in the tranny, although I have to point out I've never driven a stock MM - mine has the J mod and a Rheinhart tuning chip. Sway bars and control arms are stock. No strange noises when rolling. Ride was not as smooth as on mine. Never got above 60 MPH on test drive (was a 55 zone).

I only looked at three of the rims, but two had road rash on the edges - a place where the tire sidewalls stick out and should have protected them - doesn't make sense, but it is what it is.

The upholstery was not properly cleaned by the dealer - needs Lexol. There is a deep scratch on the drivers cushion underneath where the right knee would go. The seat mounting brackets (inside the car) are all rusted. The hanging flap below the knees issue common to the front seats was evident.

Above the RF door, at the corner of the windshield, the door weatherstrip has a 4-5 inch long fill of white silicone underneath. Not sure why, didn't see any rust or hole, but didn't pull it too hard. Maybe it was glue to hold the strip in place.

Positives: the car ran, AC blew cold (although compressor was cycling while on max AC set at 60 degrees, so might have been low on refrigerant), stock gauges work, signals work, radio works, driver side mirror works, compass works, map lights work. Has drilled and slotted brake rotors, no idea what brand - could be high-end, but I seriously doubt it. Stock calipers, once painted red, but very little of that left.

The 4.6 Interceptor badge on the trunk which looks misaligned in the ebay pic, has actually been broken in half, then stuck on without properly aligning the two pieces.

This car is in a condition I would expect to see in a low-end used car lot, the kind of buy-here pay-here place with a dirt lot filled with various POS's people have to drive when they can't afford a decent car. It does not belong in a mainstream dealership. This is the kind of trade you don't get much for 'cuz it's too poor to re-sell, and they have to send it to the auction. It speaks volumes about this dealership that they have the car on the lot and are asking $17,795 for it. The ebay auction expired with a high bid of $14,600 without the reserve being met. To be of the caliber we demand in the collective, this car needs a restoration, which means it should retail for way less than $10K IMO. Hell, there are immaculate member cars for sale right now for $17K.

It's a crying shame this car has fallen into this condition. :bigcry:

Someone needs to buy that and fix it up. Especially if it was one of the first blue's ever made.
