View Full Version : Canadians looking for tires

So, I'm due for a set of rear snow tires, and have used Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 Winterbiters (on my Marauder, as well and the CougarXR7 I previously had). I found that Bridgestone is discontinuing this model, but my front tires (225/60-16) have lots of life left in them, and I really wanted to keep the same tread pattern on, front-to-back.

After looking around locally, no one could get the 235/65-16 for the backs in a timely fashion... Like a 3-4 week back order! Seeing as we've already had our first snowfall of the year, that's NOT going to work... Local prices weren't very attractive either, and for whatever reason, I stopped by Tirerack.com... They have improved order processing for Canadians, and collect taxes/duty/etc. up-front (no surprise costs and a lower than expected brokerage fee). I ordered the two tires for $320CDN, and should have them here next week (UPS delayed due to US Thanksgiving)...

The prices worked out really well for me, even with the taxes, duty and shipping. If you're in need of tires, you may want to take a look...

Discontinuing the WS50 in general?
Or just that size?

That would suck. Those had to be the best I ever used.

I currently run LM Blizzacks on my focus and Aviator. Easier at high speeds, but not as soft as the WS. Similar tread pattern, but I would not mix the two.

THESE APPEAR SIMILAR, AND THIS WAS THE SIZE I USED:

Tirerack is good, they took a week to arrive Everything was in order and no hidden costs. Saved myself $420 from buying local.

Kaltire is doing my rims, 16" Core racing Evo 7's. I dropped my tires off saturday expect a phone call monday or tuesday saying they are ready , then I drive over and they will bolt them on.

They are a bit expensive $116 per hour but 1 hour for mounting 4 tires and bolting them on.

Turns out the Evo 7 rims are cheaper than OEM steels.

Buying tires in the States is definitely the way to go. I got myself a set of 255/50/ZR17 for $400 plus $40 installation. I bought them online from http://tire-easy.com and had them shipped to a friend in Buffalo. Saved probably over $500.

I have a set of WS-50s sitting in my basement. I used them 2 seasons so there is lots of thread left. Since I don't drive the Merk during winter, they will last me a long time. lol

I beleive they are just discontinuing that size... I, too, love the WS50's. I had a set on my Mercury Cougar before the Marauder, and have been really pleased with the tire's abilities (for a winter tire) and its longevity... I think the WS60 is the replacement, as they are fairly similar in compound and tread pattern...

I love the Tire Rack, and almost exclusively shop there for tires. I keep forgeting you folks are in a different country even though your basically just across the pond to me. Prices seem to really suck for certain commodities up there. What a pain!

Tire rack is so close to me, I order Moday and they are on my doorstep Tuesday late. Also fortunate to have a wheel distributor and road force balancer 5 miles away that do wheels for $8 U.S. a pop, stems and all.

Just to finish off this thread, Tire Rack came through. Tires ordered on US Thanksgiving (Thursday) and were delivered on the following Wednesday. No hidden charges, just what Tire Rack charged me, which was far lower than the local prices I`ve been quoted, and without the backorder delays... Tires have already been mounted, balanced and installed!:coolman:

Just one warning - tell Tire Rack to request a signature on delivery... UPS left the tires sitting on my front porch! Lucky I was only gone for about 30-minutes that day of delivery, or I think my tires would`ve grown legs and walked...
