OK this past weekend had good weather so I ran the Marauder through the car wash and got it home without getting dirty (dirt roads and all). I'm ready to put it up for the winter and I usually do an oil change. Since it's already warmed-up I drain the oil & remove the filter.

Now, I discover I don't have oil to refill. I never start it until I'm ready to take it out in the spring anyway (I have a battery minder & it sits in tire shaped pans with rollers). So I'm planning to just let it sit over winter without oil. Does anyone see a problem with letting it sit without oil in the pan?

I wouldn't do it. Not to mention, what if there is an emergency, such as the garage starts afire. You may need to move it in a hurry....

What about next spring when you thought you put oil in but didn't. Not good things could happen.

Go and get a new filter and new oil, run the car wiht the new stuff 'til warm and THEN store it....

By leaving it without oil for that long, the oil pickup tube will go dry and the pump will take a while to prime back up in the spring.

Bad idea.

^^^what Zack said^^^ (althought I wouldn't have thought of that... :D )

Dragcity brings up some valid points, too...

If you put the plug back in you could get a lot of condensation.

I would not store it without oil in the crankcase.
