Cracked Intake

I'm so sorry I didn't graduate to a Marauder yet but.....
I have a cracked inlet/exit nipple at the rear of the intake. It's the one at the rear that feeds into the heater core. I added a picture to show where it is. I'm sure there's no help for it. It's not split. It just simply disintegrated
Are there better intakes out there. And what other 4.6L 2V types can I use.:bigcry:

I Think You Can 98 To 2000 Are The Same.but You Can Also Use A 2001 But Have To Do Some Mods..to It Also What Year Is You Car?

Since you have the PI heads, any Ford intake from 2001 will work. I have done the job once on a 98. In fact, I have a set of intake gaskets for your CV.

Are you meaning 2001 and forward or Up to 2002, which is the year of my car.......

I saw Exlpoder intakes on Ebay, are these comparable, or a different design

Most of the replacement intakes will have aluminum for the water passages.

I know that the Ford replacement intake that I installed on my friend's '98 CVPI had the metal heater hose spout. I hope that the newer replacement ones from Ford are like that, too.

I haven't seen a 02+ CV Crack an intake Manifold. Have you checked crownvic.net to see what the consensus was there?

as you already know, 96-00 used the same intake then in 01 with the PI heads the intakes changed and they included the aluminum crossover in the front.

It was covered by extended warranty and it replaced with a upgraded intake. I can get these new and try and save you some money, if you buy a used one be sure its the newer design with the alluminum runner up front.

I bought the dealer item, $310(total) on the wholesale (jobber) rate.
The regular rate was $360 w/o tax
I won't open the box til Saturday, when I'll do the installation....

I know he already bought an intake and what not but If I recall correctly (atleast on certain vehicles for sure) the warranty only covers it if its leaking from the front of the intake, hence the reason the nipple in the back is the same and the alluminum runner upfront is the diference.

Ford did not use the alum. crossover til 04'. So ANY 2003 and older are prone to cracking.

My '02 looks exactly like one in the picture in the first post. Is that some other type of porous metal or is that ref to MM.

Wrong. 02 was the first year for the aluminum front coolant crossover.



96-00 panther intakes are the same (nPI), they only made a small change in 98 for COP provisions. The 96-98 Mustang uses the same intake, as does the 96-97 MN12s

01+ panther intakes interchange (PI), but only use an 02+ unit with aluminum crossover. 99-04 Mustangs use the same intake, but have the composite crossover for the earlier years.



The heater core outlet from manifold is not a common failure point, but it does occur. Failure in this location is not covered by the recall, but is covered by the extended warranty if you have it.

You can get a BRAND NEW Ford OEM PI intake for just over $200, available from summit (and numerous other vendors) marketed through FRPP (same piece, OE, has the aluminum crossover)

Since you already had the aluminum crossover, you do not need to worry about the revised alt bracket.

The Dorman aftermarket intake is alright, and includes pre-installed gaskets. But, the COP mounting screws are pretty cheesy. I prefer the OE piece.

The reason I say it, is because the tsb from ford when mine cracked went from 96-03 CV and GM. If I was totally off...thanks for straightening that out.
