MM owners,
Flowmaster has new 44 mufflers that fits on 03 and 04 MM. Flowmaster website has them for just over $100. www.carstuff (http://www.carstuff) .com has them for about 79 bucks apiece. I am thinking about getting them, has any one put them on their MM yet? And if so, how does it compare with other performance mufflers?

The one thing to consider with flowmasters, even though they do usually sound nice they don't flow worth anything... It's seriously bad. So get em for sound, not for performance.

Advisedr Doom has the new flowmaster super 44s on his MM and they sound like a monster
I have the super 44's on mine and there is NOTHING quiet about these mufflers but in a good way. These are the most AGGRESSIVE sounding mufflers i ever had. I love em. They have a nice deep rumble. Anyone here on this site who has heard my car will tell you the same.

There are vids on you tube with cobras and mach1s with 44s they sound very nice... the sound will be pretty close. (but again remember they are a waste of money performance wise)

I have Flugger's on mine and love the sound, but will probably upgrade to Dynomax's in the Spring time.

If its the Super 44's you are talking about, I have them installed. They have a 4" body so they fit quite nicely and don't protrude out the bottom. Sound is awesome, good growl and gurgle. I am using them with the stock resonated mufflers so its quite quiet at idle, but when you step on the gas you can really hear them. Plus, they are black so looks good.

i feel the same.. the res tips really do kill all the "joy" noise of the 40 series. gona have to get me some resonator delete tips as its just too quiet.
here is a clip of mine.. this is only a day after having them installed.

and for those on dial up.
http://www.shodude.com/files/marauder/marauder40flowsSmall.avi
not bad just not nearly as loud as my 5.0l mustang with the same mufflers.

VAMarauder03,
Removing the cats behind the oxygen sensor increase airflow and give your MM a deeper sound and a quicker takeoff (you probably already notice that). Removing the cats before the oxygen sensor (or all cats) in some cases made the "check engine light" come on and the vehicle run rough.:burnout:

GOOD!
I took mine off a long time ago and really enjoyed the sound and better throttle.
I have mixed feelings on the 44's I've heard them on my friends stock mach 1 with res-delete tips and it sounds good inside but outside I dunno.
What some people have to remember is that their are Two 40 series mufflers Delta and Super. Delta is the quietier of the two.
I've been running Super 40's, res-delete tips and 2nd set of cats tossed for a while. Next step will be LT headers and 2.5" piping cause I still have all stock piping besides 2.5" piping from right behind the H crossover pipe to the mufflers.
SilverSurfer, who's sounds better Dr. Doom or mine? lol

The Super 44s would be the louder of the 3 because it has less baffles inside.
Super 44s
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/images/_44_super.jpg
The Super 44™ is the most aggressive, deepest sounding street and strip muffler Flowmaster has ever made! The Super 44's Maximum performance and Improved flow path will generate more torque and more power than ever before! If you want to really hear your exhaust system inside as well as outside your vehicle the Super 44™ is for you.
Super 40s
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/images/_40_super.jpg
The Super 40 5X10-inch case design, modeled after our Top Ten race mufflers, gives you a deeper tone that retains our famous 40 Series sound and feel. Our Super 40 is the most agressive, deepest sounding street 2-chamber muffler. The classic black case maintains that original Flowmaster look.
Delta Flow 40s
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/images/_40_series_delta.jpg
The 40 Series Delta Flow is a milder sounding street and strip muffler that generates a powerful, aggressive sound outside the vehicle, a lower interior resonance while improving your torque and horsepower.

def better than stock, but for the same price magnaflows are leaps and bounds better. Flowmasters do sound better though for sure, that's why I said get em for sound not performance

RR Suki,
If I had to chose, I would take performance over sound anyday.
Thanks

i'd take sound over performance. you hear the sound, the performance difference would be not noticable on the street IMO. MAYBE on a dyno and it would be minimal
if is sounds like crap but is .1 sec faster or something not worth it to me

for those of you just cutting off the mufflers and putting on new ones, that might be true, beats me. However if you look at the flow tests it's a very large difference between the flowmaster and straight through mufflers like magnaflow etc.

and thats where MIL eliminators come into play. get rid of the "cel" and should get rid of any rough running. my guess is the rough running came from the 02's reading rich, and trying to lean it out to much.

I guess it comes down to individual preference, good points raised by all.
