I have a 180 degree therm that I bought. I just took the 188 degree out and it is about an inch taller than the 180, does anyone know if I can still use my 180, or do I have to get something else? Thanks, Tim:help:

Who did you buy it from because it sounds like you have the wrong one. Go to Napa if you want it done right away, I think they stock them. Good luck.

Hypertech #1011 is the 160 stat I'll be putting in tomorrow.

Got mine from Dennis: same size as the original. Somebody made a mistake with yours.

LML- this is an e-mail from Ford Chip in regards to the 160 stat. I wanted to install it before the dyno tune but Im glad I did my homework first. The fan on/off temps have to be changed on your chip as well and the new stat could affect open/closed loop on the computer.

A 160 stat won't do anything for power. It doesn't necessarily keep the intake any cooler and any gains would be so small it would be tough to measure. Fuel economy would prob suffer with a 160 stat.

Hope this helps out..

Is that Failsafe thermostat available in 180? Wouldn't that be a safer way to go just in case,'specially with a supercharged engine.

I tend to agree with Fordchips. There is no practical advantage to a 160 degree stat. The engine actually runs more efficiently at 180 - 190. If you want to cool something intake air would be the way to go. When someone gets the cool box done. Hint hint.

The advice from Dennis was to run a cooler (180) stat and cooler (IT20) Denso plugs for maximum combustion. Won't a 160 stat upset this?
