Here's an article in the Detroit Free Press about Dr. Jeffrey Runge's comments regarding the safety of the Crown Vic PI. Dr. Runge is the head of NHTSA (for those not familiar, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Interesting comment about the idea of police departments being willing to spend a six-figure sum for a hypothetical super-safe vehicle.
