Well I just closed on my new Marauder a few days ago and I'm loving it. I just drove it down from Washington D.C. to Atlanta, GA through all kinds of weather, traffic, double takes and thumb's up.
It just passed 3000 miles and is ready for its first oil change.
So what are some recommendations about the best oil to use in this beast? What's the real story on the synthetics? What about some of these additives that you see on the informercials, duralube etc? Are they worth a damn? Are they a good thing? Should I use something like that on a new engine? In short, what's the best regimen I should use on this car beyond simply changing the oil every 3000 miles to get the best performance and best life from the engine.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Eric: Welcome!
1. Synthetic oil is good.
2. Infomercial additives are BAD! :nono:
3. Your last line sez it all: "changing the oil every 3000 miles to get the best performance and best life from the engine."
4. And before you ask, you will get 12 different answers if you ask WHICH oil or what viscosity... most of us are using either the factory recommended 5W-20 synthetic blend or a 5W-30 full synthetic. DON'T use a 10W-anything...and DO use a good filter...Mobil 1, K&N, or Motorcraft seem to be the favorites...

Never had much faith in buying anything on sold on an Informercial. But I saw a couple of those products in the local Pep Boys a while back and wondered if they were any good.
I've always been in the habit of changing the oil every 3000 miles for every vehicle I've ever had, and they've always lasted many years. I just replaced my primary car, an 89 BMW 535, which I've had for 12 years with the Marauder. I'd like to keep the Marauder for 12 years too. So I want to take the best care of it I can.

Use Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend and Motorcraft filter. Change every 2,500 to 3,000 miles.... you'll be just fine.

Use a PREMIUM oil filter. No additives and I won't even start on what weight oil. Do a search on OIL and you'll have an evenings worth of reading. In the morning you'll go, WTF?????

Festus: For what it worth I run a fleet (20+) of Ford 5.4 gas engines in E-350's on 5W-20 and change oil at 3,000. I get 350,000+ miles off these engines. I know these are not the 4.6L DOHC but still the Ford 5W-20 oil works. Real world miles!
Anyone know the exact part number on the Motorcraft oil filter?

I checked the FAQ section but its not there? You can call any Ford/L&M dealer and get it. Most auto stores have book to cross check it.

Festus--Enjoy yourself in your new ride , I know I am . and as for oil change I use Mobil #1 5W-30 . I have used it on my crown victoria,s in the past and I have never had a problem .
Festus, check out this link about the government prosecuting a number of additive manufacturers for deceptive advertising. The title is about Z Max, but read down and you will see a number of other additives mentioned, too. http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.htm
Thanks!
