Due to recent changes in lifestyle, I will be forced to leave the MM unattended in an open parking lot for long stretches, each day. This is bothersome for me, as I'm used to leaving my car in much more secured locations...

I've decided I need an alarm, but have had some trouble figuring out what to get... I'd like a 2-way unit (i.e comes with a pager) and would REALLY like to retain use of the the stock keypad on the door to lock/unlock & arm/disarm.

I've read that Code Alarm does what I'm looking for, but I've usually gone with DEI products (Clifford) in the past, and have no experience with Code Alarm...

What's every else using / what would you suggest?

In addition to an alarm, use a car cover. This should preclude the door dings and deter casual observation with a view of hi-jacking. Thieves may not want to deal with removing a car cover, too much on scene time. Plus lifting it to see what kind of car is underneath may cause passer-by's to raise a challenge.

FWIW.

I never even thought about the car cover idea before.

As far as alarms Clifford is just over priced version of Viper alarms.

It really just depends on what your needs are, like if you want remote start, remote windows up/down, trunk pop and sunroof open/close. Some alarms only have X amount of open channels to adding on modules. Also the addition of sensors like Audio Glass sensor, Tilt/Motion sensor, Dual Radar, and Ultrasonic Interior sensor. (want to know more about them just ask)

Personally I have been looking at the Viper 5900 model (Alarm/Remote Start) to get some time soon and adding on the Audio Glass, Tilt/Motion and Dual Radar sensors. http://www.viper.com/

Even with retaining the unlock feature of the keypad you will still need to disarm the alarm to avoid a loud annoying siren going off.

+1 on the Viper....have it and love it! REmote start from the shuttle bus 1/2 mile or so from the car lot...two way remotes and windows up auto when I arm. They can make it work with your keyless entry with a module...but you have to buy a second remote control that they inline wire into the door electronics to make that work. Code Alarm has really bad track record of quality control and service. I was looking at them too and all the installers in my town said "Dont do it!" I had to take their word.

Its a DEI product and I just got it for my MM...NO problems so far, remote start, alarm, sensor, 2-way and some other features you can add on like the auto up n down on the windows...I dont need all that. And all the other stuff the other posters said...I didnt want to repeat it. Plus from what I hear its the same as a viper just cheaper because the viper comes with (2) 2-way remotes...

Good Luck

I got the Viper and it's great, just doors, shock, tamper, trunk. I didn't fool with any of the exotic stuff like remote start and windows. I got a phobia of people messing with electronics more than is necessary...just another item to possibly need working on or to ground out later on.

I've had a Viper alarm/remote start for about a year and have had 0 complaints.

do not get autopage!!! autopage = crap:puke:
set the alarm walk away and sometimes the windows are all the way down in the mall parking lot while it's raining.

Price can vary. The one I mentioned in my above post I can get installed for $399 but I also have to buy a bypass module and give up my valet key for the remote start which is why it cost more to start with. If your just getting an alarm, it should be in the ball park of $200-300 depending on if you get any extra sensors or modules added on.

The Hornet was 350 installed and that included the bypass module.

Can you help me with the HID conversion?

In the past I bought UNGO.

I always arranged for the head installer.

Once he was unavailable and the "summer help" installed.

He butchered it real good. HE didn't even install the ignition kill, you could drive it away with the horn and lites a blasting.

Took the head installer 3 days to sort it out.

An alarm is only as good as the installation.

Killing the FP via a trunk switch is a good deterrent.

I got the top of the line one and mine was installed with a 2 year warranty for $500.

So... It sounds like I'm probably not going to be able to unlock doors and disarm the alarm from the keypad on the door :alone:

I highly recommend your own hidden kill switch that you don't tell anyone about. Just use the ground wire to the fuel pump relay. That way the only moving your car will do is if they tow it. I have a hidden one on my stang.

I had a viper 791 on my old crown victoria. I loved it. remote start, window roll up & down, trunk pop, etc, etc. I haven't had the money to get another one since the Marauder, but one day soon.

Kill switch is something that's already been done... It's always one of the first things I do, to every vehicle I've owned ;)

You should be good then. If the fuel pump can't get an electrical connection for power you're golden.

One of my hidden switches kills the ignition system itself, even if they broke it my house and got my key still won't go anywhere.

Sure thing man. I helped SilverSurfer03 install his at my shop after I closed up. Just make sure the kit you get comes with everything. If it's a low beam only make sure it has the in-line fuses on it's power wire and same thing for a bi-xenon (low/high beam) kit.
