View Full Version : A simple Header question

I searched the extensive threads on headers and cannot find a definitive answer. Will mustang shorty headers mount cleanly to our block without any obstruction? I know a slight mod is needed to match to the OE exhaust but do the headers interfere with anything (such as steering shaft)?
Everthing else under that car is already hi-flow, the cats, mufflers, etc. I see no reason to replace perfectly good, high quality SS components with x-pipes, flowmasters etc. The price alone, $300 for shorty's, and labor to install and mate up would seem to make this the most cost effective exhaust mod. Am I missing something here? Has anyone gone this route?

The FRPP Cobra shorty headers will cleanly bolt to the heads with no trouble with the exception of fitting the EGR tube. The headers then must have the Cobra X-pipe to bolt-up. They will not fit the MM x-pipe.

You will need a spacer between the motor mount and crossmember onn the drivers side.
Annywhere betweenn 1/4" & 3/8" depending on the car.

Shorty headers bolt up to the block, you'll need to modify the EGR tube and add a spacer (a nut was used on mine - both sides) to raise the engine so the steering shaft clears the header. The stock exhaust pipes will not fit so you'll have to get something fabbed up. My install is here:

Jacking the engine up is going to affect the driveline angles -- did any of you guys check pinion and driveshaft angle before and after to see how much it was affected? I would worry about that.

Thanks for the input. That's what I needed to know
