Cool...I think we have more than enough people to warrant a reason to produce.

I run a Mac G5 here at work and have Ilife/Iphoto. I can use it to make really nice professional looking calendars. I build it and send to apple and they process and mail them @ 19.99 each and they are a good size @ 10.4"X13" They do not mention quantity discounts.

If they saw all the problems I had, I wonder if they'd bother doing this.

First off...DEADBEAT BIDDERS! Most people were great about sending me their cheques, but the people who ordered and never sent $$ or even bothered replying to any of my PMs....**** them. :censor:

Realize that whoever does the project has to lay out ALL THE $$ first to get them printed. For me, that was about $1000 on my credit card, it would be a much higher total for a big run, our run was only 60 calendars. (printing+big envelopes/stamps)

It took many many weeknights of freetime to do, and I had the help of a few great folks (freakstatus, Sully08, Peter):D

I did this as a Not-For-Profit thing, and I still ended up actually losing some money in the end.:stupid:(should read "I AM stupid")

Then there's the whole issue of getting pictures/sorting through/picking only 12. You're sure to piss people off, as I found out, when you couldn't include them due to lacklustre or barely average photos they sent. Most folks were good, and I sent suggestions and got good newer photos. Some folks were not so nice. Since the Canadian MM community is fairly small, I had it easy. I'd hate to have to try and pick 12 photos out of the 200 that would probably come in for a USA calendar!!!

IF (and it's still a big IF) I do this again, it will be pay by Paypal FIRST. Then the calendars will be printed, then sent out. It will be a For-Profit thing also, hopefully make $2-3 per calendar so I can take my wife out for a nice dinner for all the time she spent addressing envelopes/running to the mailbox/losing me to the computer many week/weekend nights. I think most folks would want to make bigger $$, but I just want to be able to cover costs and reward people who helped. On that note, I'd also use the profit to pay for free calendars to those who did Photoshop touchups (Sully08), got a great deal on printing (freakstatus) and did logo design/artwork (Peter).

Anyone still thinking about doing this?:P

I think that most people who have the calendars were very happy with the quality and layout, and that makes me happy (Calendar owners are free to speak up). I did the whole thing just trying to build MM community spirit, and break even cashwise. One outta two ain't bad, I guess!;)

I produced a Marauder calender a couple of months ago using ILife8. It turned out great.

Taemian,
I purchased two of the calendars, 1 for home 1 for work. Really enjoy them. Very nicely done.

Deeply sorry you had to endure all the bad that went with seeing the project come to it's full completion.

It's because of people like you that I came away with a good feeling about doing the calendar, even after the hassles. You rock!

Do a calendar and I'm in for two! One for home and one for my office. Maybe it could be produced yearly and if some one's picture didn't make it one year, it might the next. It's a great idea!

Didn't I read, on the SVT forum, that they got into licensing issues over trademark infringement with Ford, when they got into publishing a Mustang Calendar? I'm not saying it's the case, but before you spend any resources on the project, it might be wise to check.

Also, I believe that our friend, Mike (Breadfan) started such a project.

Meanwhile, put me down for two.:D

This is a non-issue. I was also in the fray with this stuff, but it was merely Cafe Press freaking out over a letter they got from Ford. Ford clarified their intent of the letter, and all is well. Cafe Press are idiots, and we did in-house printing anyways.

So long as we weren't using the brand marque to actually sell or market the calendars, Ford was fine. If the entire front cover had been the Mercury waterfall logo, or the Ford blue oval, there would have been concerns. It was a small issue about trademark control that got waaay out of control.:shake:

Example: If a cheapo aftermarket parts maker plastered the Ford logo all over their boxes, they would get sued. Same thing with us. The parent company just wants to protect their logo from being used on crappy stuff, or get licensing fees if they agree to the logo's use. Since the logos really weren't objectified in our calendars, it was no big deal.
