View Full Version : Thinking about getting Maruader

I currently have 1999 Crown Vic p71 that is starting to crap out on me. I already got approved for financing and im looking for a new car. I got the search narrowed down to three models a Mercury Marauder, Lincoln LS V8, and a Ford Fusion 4cyl stick with sport appearance package.

Well I found a nice Marauder that im going to make an offer on and had a few questions about the car. Ive been searching around in previous posts and could not come up with any definitive answers for some of my questions.

1. I literally just bought brand new Michelien snow tires for the vic. Their size 225/60R/16. Will these fit on and work well on the marauder provided I get 16" rims? Ive seen in some posts that the tractions control may or may not work with this size, does anyone know from experience? If the traction control does not work and I have to turn it off will the abs still work?

2. I know these are large cars but how is the gas mileage on these cars? I'm currently only getting 215 miles per a tank in my crown vic. I'm looking to do better than this and consider gas prices are currently high in the winter im really concerned about the summer. How many miles to a tank do you usually get in mixed driving?

Thanks for any and all help,

-John

Miles to a tank is not a comparable measurement.

With the Marauder u will have to use premium.

Since you are looking for mileage buy the Fusion.

I can comment on the gas mileage, I have a little over a half a tank and can go 200 miles or a little more. I've never filled up.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the site. If you want a MM with no traction control, get a 2003 300a package. These are the early made ones.

340 a tank (+-) need 03 or later rims for the 16s, you came to a biased site for advice, get the marauder, the Lincoln 2nd choice...

Seems like a no brainer. ^^^^ Most folks here don't agonize over MPGs. The MM is what it is ... a performance car that uses 91 octane minimum.

+1....

Most of us didn't buy the Marauder for it gas mileage!

Most of us don't care what kind of mileage it gets!

I bet you'll get more smiles to the mile with the Marauder!

just filled up right when the light came on and had 305 miles on the trip and it cost me 50 bucks to fill it back up.

Seems like something is wrong with your Vic that you are only geting 210 miles on a tank! Either you drive with the gas pedal on the floor, or your O2 is shot, fuel lines, carbon build up, etc etc.....300A early models have no traction control, so the 16" package would work there.

If it's a stock marauder it should get up to 25 MPG highway around 14 city if you drive it normal. Gas tank size if I'm correct is 18.5 gallons but You must use Premium Gas. Their is a number of guys running 16 in snows in the winter month's up north, that shouldn't be a problem either. It's a great car in alot of ways.

My Marauder get's 24 MPG on the highway.
If you are looking for good gas mileage go with the Fusion.

I've driven a lot of CV's over the years. The Marauder gets better mileage than any of them ever did, but it does take premium. My '04 gets 16-18 in town and 20-22 on the highway. Depends on the wind and how far my foot is in it.

The LS is a fine automobile, too, but it is a helluvalot smaller than the MM--especially in the trunk and rear seat. No comment on your other choice.

Skip the LS. I have a friend that works at a Ford store and he says they are not a good car. He ought to know :)

If you want fuel mileage, buy the Fusion. If you want a large, comfortable, performance sedan, buy the MM. You're certainly not comparing apples and oranges here.

Your right about that! I'm pretty much dead set on a Marauder that is until I change my mind in five minutes. I'm about to make an offer on an 04 which sucks cause of the traction control. I'm going to see about returning the snows since I just bought them a week ago and didn't have them mounted yet.

Just like Email no one answers your questions.

Lincoln LS V8 is the clone of the Jaguar S-Type. They have lots of problems. The Jaguar 4.0L V8 is basically the same engine as the Lincoln 3.9L V8. Search on the internet and you can see the multiple problems these engines have had. A nicer looking car they have not made, than these clones, but with the good looks come many many problems.

Fusion is new, some like it and some do not. I personally don't know much about it. But as a new car you are going to be paying more for it and more for insurance. Yes the dealership will warranty it, but also this limits you from doing anything fun with it.

The Marauder is, ask any of us, the best car period. Well the best for the price. We love them and a very biased towards them. Insurance is usually cheap, we know every problems they have and how to fix them or have them fixed. We know how to make them leap from ordinary to extraordinary.
This site is a source of information that is unrivalled for the information you can get on this great car.

(1) - Tires are different on a Marauder. A Marauder has larger rear tires, and is made to have larger rear tires. You need to keep this difference to maintain your ABS and Traction control. It is the only down side to owning a Marauder but there are lots of solutions.

(2) - If you have a CV P71 you will be getting all of that car and more with the Marauder. Mileage might not improve much, but the reality of the individual is that gas prices are the smallest expense when it comes to a car.

How much do you drive? How long does it take to drive 100,000 miles?

If you drive a 25 MPG car 100,000 miles you are going to use 4000 gallons of gas. If you drive a 15 MPG car 100,000 miles you are going to use 6666 gallons. If it takes you 10 years to drive this far, 100,000 miles; then you are going to be using 267 gallons a year more or 22 gallons a month or $66 dollars a month. You will save that much buying a Marauder over a Fusion on your insurance each month.

My Snow tires are:

Front 215 65 16's
Rear 225 70 16's.

Your 225 60 16's might work as front snow tires, but you would need to buy 215 70 16's for the rears as this will give you the needed 5% rake, if you want to have ABS brakes and Traction Control.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=215%2F&ratio=70&diameter=16&startIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&performance=W&RunFlat=All&x=48&y=10

I have the Winterforce tires on my Marauder right now.

hope this helps you make up your mind.

Buy the Marauder!
You can thank us later :D
My current tank is @ 280's and the low fuel light should be coming on any time.
Not much boost going on right now, There is too much snow and Ice for that.

It depends what you are into. If you are into pretty good gas mileage and great power that is upgradeable, then the marauder is the only choice. I have a CV for work and a MM "a night on the town" and play. Hope this helps.

Ok, I'm now dead set on a marauder. Ive gotten a dealer down to $20,000 for an 04, certified used w/ 23k on the clock. Is this too steep? Should I move on?

Kelley Blue Book says $20,745 in excellent condition at 23,000 miles with moonroof, with rear spoiler, and with 6-CD changer. Deduct for options not on this one and for its condition. Price might be close. My estimate for the average Marauder is about $18,500. Sounds like you are in the right ballpark. You just need to determine where it fits for what it has for options and whether its condition is below average, average or excellent. Good luck.

PM RoyLPita Include your Vin# and ask politely.

I paid 27K Canadian about $23K US at that time for my limited edition 04 DTR Marauder. Well worth it in the Canadian market.

If it has been damaged you need to know why. Need to know if Carfax will money back guarantee it, and need to have it inspected. By an impartial or trusted garage.

Wow If i lived on Long Island I would be down at Cannillo or Gullwing scoping out a Maserati Bentley or Rolls Royce.

Did you look at the local Marauders for sale?

If you like silver this one looks good.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=235868317&dealer_id=626040&car_year=2004&model=MARAUDER&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=100&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&make=MERC&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Ais psearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=11729&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=35

or if you have carfax you might want to check out this 300A 2003:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=234739907&dealer_id=58323578&car_year=2003&model=MARAUDER&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=100&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&make=MERC&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Ais psearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=11729&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=47

The silver one comes with an extended warranty and looks really nice, even if it is Silver.

It is also fairly close to you, so you could have a look yourself.

At Cannillo I would love to see this Maserati: http://www.cannillomotorsports.com/inventory/qp/qp.htm

At Gullwing this would also do me just fine: http://gullwingmotorcars.com/moredetails.html?90091304&sitecode=gullwingmotorcars bit high mileage but 87-89's were the best years.
