View Full Version : From SHO to MM, WOW!

I made the plunge at the end of May. I had no intention of getting a MM. We were getting an Explorer for the wife and the next thing I know we also have a MM.
I traded in my 98 SHO V8. I thought I would always have the SHO but I was swayed after the test drive. The MM runs circles around the SHO in every way. I cannot dream of owning anything else right now. My problem now is that as I read this site I realize I need all of the speed products. The same thing happened with my ZRX. It took a while to build it up. It will take a while for the MM to be built. Patience!

I traded in a '99SHO because of the cam failures.

I really liked the SHO, but I am glad I got the Marauder. This website adds significantly to the ownership value.

Logan is the man!

ps FYI - It's strickly optional, you can make a donation to keep the website going.

I used to read the SHOV8 site all the time. It became nothing more than a site for angry SHO owners. The cam failure saga has become overwhelming with them. The negativity drove me away. I even emailed Ford about what I had been reading and all I received was a generic phone call in return to ask a few meaningless questions.
I was eating breakfast while looking at the MM today and I decided that I can still see myself with this car in 10 years. Guys just stare at this car when it goes by. My wife just doesn't understand it. The Merc dealer said to her, "Honey, it's a guy thing.":D

Amen brother, Amen! (although lucky for us there are a few cooler ladies around here that do "get it").

A guy in his early 30's driving a late model SUV followed me into a parking lot to ask me about the MM.

Another guy in his 20's on a mountain bike asked me about it.

People comment onit all the time. I have owned a lot of cars including BMW and Porsche, nobody erver asked me about those.

There is something about this car that stirs the emotions.

I know what you mean. a couple of them come in to BON, i'm sure under new IDs every time, to complain.
When i look at the complaints list, it appears that very few have actually experienced the failure. By far the majority complaining, it is clear, are only afraid of "what might happen" It seems like a sky is falling thing, not to belittle those who have experienced the failure.

any way, enjoy your Marauder! It's the last of a breed!

Yes, the MM car causes reaction.
No, the MM is not possessed.
True, it is all emotional.
I think it's the MM taking us into it's possession.
One look, you're hooked.

Just back from a 14 hour road trip and I have enough energy to sit down here and review posts of the last 24 hours. That's also telling of the MMs power and personality. 14 hours on the road, and I'm not beat. By any clock standards, I should be exhausted. I am tired, but not exhausted, and I've never had this experience before. No wonder I want to drive straight through from Chicago to Ennis!

Here's the "on the road-show" tally.

4 "thumbs up" from other motorists who just had to catch up at all costs just to say so.
3 "I'm not passing, may be a cop" blind spot hangers.
2 "M A R A U D E R" lip reads in traffic
2 "W T F" jaw drops detected in traffic
1 very unhappy Corvette owner
1 "Nevermind" Jag Jag
1 "wave" from marked PI
1 "Great road meal" @ the Top Notch, Rt 20, South Bend IN.
1 Very happy Mad-3R reunited with his MM.
0 traffic stops, i.e. "pulled over"
0 problems with MM
0 complaints on MM
0 fatigue

1 1.13 Lbs. package of Oreo cookies, the only road food approve by the NHSTSB for consumption OTR, with 12 approved ways to consume them. Cookies washed down by 1 US qt. ICE COLD Oberweis whole milk, Dixie cups optional donchano...

And y'all thought "good numbers" meant 0-60 times...LOL!

This car sucks up pavement like a Dust Buster sucks Lassie off your fresh wool suit...Get her on the road, now. Life doesn't get better, or, give you a second chance.

SHO 'Nuff!!!
Traded in my '97 V8SHO for the MM. I test drove it while in for some maintenance (SHO down for 26 days over the prior 10 months) and abandoned the SHO on the spot. 1st observation I made during my test drive, and I kid you not, was that the MM felt "lighter" during lane changes than the SHO. It's a FWD vs RWD thing, I believe, but the MM felt better to me.
Anyway... I've had guys make offers for MY MM 3 times in 4 months. That never happened with the SHO :) :) :)

The selections for this "Gran Turismo" were 78th Fraser's Megantic Outlaw, and WAPOL's "Off Duty." To call them "inspiring" is an understatement. I'm considering a name change for this road king, and "outlaw" figures in that.

Y'all got to get you MMs on the road, ain't nothing like it.

The problem with the SHO Cams is it is a design defect, the cam chain sprockets are pressed on. Eventually they will all fail well before the expected normal engine life.

Since the engine was built by Yamaha, $12-$14K for a new one.

ESP will only pay the cost of repair not to exceed the value of the car. A car with a known expensive engine design defect has a low value.

The only reason why the dealer took my SHO on trade was because I had 6 months left on my ESP. They had to see the ESP contract and verify it before they would even look at my SHO.

I owned a '91SHO, '95SHO and '99SHO. They were all great cars. Frankly Ford messed up big with how they handled this issue.

Welcome rob!

I also have a zrx and a marauder. I kinda think the bike and the car complement each other. You know muscle bike/ muscle car. Anyway, i think you made a wise choice by dropping the sho. I have heard the sho's are nice when they are running right. But i also have heard horror stories about things breaking. The reason i stayed away from them was the plain fact of being front wheel drive. Well, enjoy the new car. And start modding!!! Contact dennis!

Dave, my thoughts exactly about the MM and ZRX combo. Do you have the slow green or faster black?
If haven't been there, check out ZRXOA.org, great site.
My ZRX has the following:
Titanium Akro full system
Ted's advancer
Ivan's jet kit with drilled airbox, stock filter
Sprocket Specialist 47 tooth rear
Rupeman's forkbrace
Goodridge stainless brakelines front and rear
Muzzy alum fan
Mobil 1
The bike was fast before, now it rips! I have thought about ZX11 cams but you lose some midrange grunt.
The goal is to get the MM modded. The only problem is that car performance parts cost a lot more.
