the car hasntbeen driven hradly at all in the past 4days. it has not been over 35* here. i started her today and she sputtered to start and smelled relly badly of gasoline. it didnt sound right at idle either. and smelled of gasoline.
any help guys? any ideas?

You didn't pump the heck out of the accelerator to "prime" the start did you like in the olden days. :o

IAC?Idle Air Control valve...but if you got a strong smell of gas, I don't think that would be it.
Prior to the start in question, did you start the motor and only let it run a few seconds, like moving it to the other side of the driveway for instance? I had to move The Blackbird to my neighbour's driveway to make room for a construction dumpster and then it sat all day in the bitter cold. When I started it that evening to move it back to my driveway, it did exactly as you described. I don't recall specifically WHY it happens, but it's not uncommon.

i moved MoBaby from one end of the driveway to the other. and no i did NOT prime her. thanks guys!

Mine is very bad about this!!!:argue:
It seems to me when you start it cold it is in "Open Loop" (very rich like having a choke closed) and if you shut it down quickly the added fuel stays in the cylinders??:cool: When you start it again it is REALLY RICH and the EEC tries to compensate giving a rough idle and a lot of SMOKE!!!:confused:
Of course I don't have the extreme cold you guys get but I would think that would just add to the situation!!:cool4:
BTW, mine has done this from the beginning....November 25, 2003....AHHH WHAT A GREAT 4 YEARS WE'VE HAD!!!:bows:

That's odd Adam. Mine's been sitting for about a week and I started her up today and it seemed to be fine. I would take her "out" for a quick drive, but no thanks with all the salt on the roads. Plus she's nice and waxed in the driveway lol.

My car used to do that same exact thing when it was below 20 outside. It went away after I got my DR tune. It would also take longer to start or take 2 trys. I don't think the factory programing likes the bitter cold air when starting.

I think MarauderJack is in the know. I've read that the MM doesn't like just turning it on, move it and off. When I start it after sitting a few days I let it come up to temp or around the block before shutting it down. No problems with this method.

Just guessing here, but it sounds like a problem with the pressure feedback to the fuel pump controller. Perhaps the cold weather sticks the pressure sensor, causing it to drive the fuel pump to a higher pressure.
