I have an oppertunity to pick up a 65 T-Bird for $1200. It was running last week, but is having some ignition issues right now. IF I buy this (for the Wife), my car payments will be late. I'm rambling right now, i know, but damn it. It would be STUPID to do it, but..... I can smell a deal at 200 paces, and this is one.... AAGGHHHHH the agony.

You're right. It'd be stupid to miss a payment to pick up another car. I'd be willing to bet that Tbird will still be there later.. :)

Your very right on the stupid to miss payments thing. But it won't be there after next week. He sent the notice out to the Mustang group here. And some of these guys got Mad, stupid money to spend. Oh well, we will find her something.

If the body is nice, then I would do it. You can turn around and sell it for more if need be. That sounds like a very low price. They go for alot more around here. Sounds like you're getting the car addiction sickness. It's a real monkey on your back. Pretty soon you'll have car parts everywhere, your wife will be screaming at you, and you will be renting garages all over just to keep all your crap in its place....Welcome to the club.

I hate myself for even thinking about suggesting this, but...

Why not transfer the money for the T-Bird to your bank account with your credit card? That way you can pay for the T-Bird next month and not miss a car payment this month?

Talk about a monkey on your back... credit. Ugh!

I see three options here; they are listed in least to most desirable:

Option 1
-Miss your car payment. The bank will charge you with a late fee, this fee is usually charged once your payment is over 14 days late. Once you are two (2) months late (ie your bill was 01 Nov 02 and it is now 01 Jan 03) this discrepancy will be reported to the credit report people and you get a black mark on your credit history.

Option 2
-Pay your car payment with a credit card vice a check. Most banks will accept this type of payment. I know a guy who would pay his credit card payment with a different credit card (crazy but people do what they have to) The down side to this is there is usually a fee associated with a credit card payment.

Option 3
-Put some sort of down payment to hold the car until you can scrap up the remaining balance. This is the best option in that you are not stuck with any late fees or credit card fees. It also keeps more $$$ in your pocket, if you can us a month or two to pay off the remaining balance.

Just my personal thoughts.

Well, my actual options are thus.
1. I have NO credit cards. (Yea ME) So it's just making My car, her car and mortgage all 2 weeks late till caught up.

2. Selling what is left of my porfolio, All AOL from when I worked for them, and useing it. (Selling anyway, so hey)

3. Convence her she would be better off with a "newer" (Mid 70 as oppose to Mid 60) car. Easer to work on and find parts for.

This would be easy for me.........
I don't like the mid 60's T-Birds at all.
But.........If a great deal (same price) came up on a 67-68 Mustang GT.......
The WAR at home would be worth it.

Being a terminal CAR GUY I have a "me fund" that I gaurd with my life just in case things like this come up.CASH is a must. There is no budgeting allowed when it comes to feeding this addiction.

If you have to balance the budget that hard to make the purchase are you going to be able to afford to keep the car?

Being newly "old" (40) I say turn and walk, don't stretch yourself that thin.
Now if you can sell anything to offset the cost,ie;HER stuff then yea go for it..........
Ahh gotta go here comes my wife..............

Well, the car is for her. And I sold stock that was more an albitros then an investment, so, we will see. She may decide to go for something else.

Wow, I thought that I was the only one. Since I got my Marauder, I am now hopelessly intent on building a car with 6-900 rwhp. I told my wife that "I want to drag race." She laughs nervously when I say that. I haven't told her that the engines that I've been looking at cost $15k+. She wont laugh at all then. :)

On the plus side, I no longer car that much about modding my MM as it'd take a major engine rebuild and alot of nitrous to get that 4.6 to where I want to be.

If I had it all to do over knowing what I know now, I wouldve bought one of you guy's old Impalas and dropped one of those new ZL1 crate motors in there....500 ft/lb at 3600 rpm 510 hp at 5400 rpm on 93 octane. That would be one street owning Barge!

But hey, I still love my Marauder. It'll take me down to the strip in style until I'm ready to pull my own Haulmark down there.
