I put in my new radio (AVIC D-2) with the SWI-PS. When I program the SWI-PS with the lights off it works. Then when i turn the lights on, the SWI-PS does not work. I decided to try to program with the lights on. Now the buttons on the wheel only work with the lights on....Annoying......
What should I do?

This was discussed in another thread....

I have never heard of such an issue nor encountered it myself until the above thread.
Make sure you used the correct pin (brown wire) in the ford24 for the steering wheel signal. Make sure you cut and preserved the correct wires on the SWI-PS. Make sure you properly capped/insulated unused wires on SWI-PS. DO NOT hook up either of the dimmer circuits. The unit auto-dims.

I did everything you said. I know that the Pin on the car harness is Pin 18...The white wire is from the SWI-PS...Could the PAC be bad? Or can a resistor be changed?

Got me, man. Never seen this one. I'd have to have it in my hands to play with it and find the problem.
Since the whole thing is resistive... Is all this testing with engine on or off? If voltage is low to begin with that may be the basis of the problem.
We saw similar problems with my adaptation of Carfixer's line lock. I added indicator lights and we had a fit with intermittent worky/no worky and finally realized it was a low voltage issue. Works fine engine on. Works intermittent engine off.
As a last resort, two options, use one or both:
1) put a cover over your light sensor and have lights all the time. I do this anyway even without SWI issues.
2) get this (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/Navigation/Accessories/CD-SR11) cd-sr11 steering wheel remote. It adds Nav functions to the steering wheel and compliments and backs up the existing steering wheel controls. For example, I made my SWC 'mode' be 'mute' since the sr11 doesn't have mute (aka ATT in Pioneer speak) I use the crap out of this little thing!

Hey Rich should he be using pin number 18 on the harness and I see you said brown wire?

Yes. I've watched the Ford24 Scosche harness evolve since we've been working together. It now has the matching pink speed sensor wire, which is helpful, but the SWI wire is still one of the generic brown wires. Pin 18 on the car side matches a brown wire on the Scosche harness side which goes to white on the SWI module. It's the only brown used on the harness. All others are capped.

Make sure you are looking at the CAR SIDE and have the plug oriented correctly. If you are looking at the Scosche harness side, this is reversed. Reference yourself by the two big pins (1 and 13) and count spaces accordingly.
Thanks Rich! This should help.
