Ive read some older posts about someone mounting an Pioneer AVIC D1 in their car with no problems....My question is will the Pioneer AVIC D3 also mount in no problems. Or possibly the Pioneer Avic Z2? Its the same in the series, and looks like a good unit. Any pictures or install tips would be useful. Im looking to replace my Eclipse CD7000 so that I cant make use of the wasted space with the stupid pocket. thank you!

I think you can install either one with no problem but ask Johnkuhn or Magindat

D3 fits and looks best by far IMO. I have a D1 upgraded to D2 in mine. Pics in my gallery.

I've done:
D1 x3
D2 x3
D3 x2
Z1 x1
Z2 x1

Look in John's Stereo forum. I have documented all of these installs except Z1 and Z2.

Did this one in DR's front yard. Car belongs to David, owner of SCT.

Thank you all for your quick replies. I have no expertise in this field, and i was looking to get this done at my local Circuit City or Bestbuy. there is no trimming required? Is it really as simple as plug and play? Because when i asked about a double din radio, they told me no, that leads me to believe they wont install it. But I really appreciate the quick replies.

I do think the D3 with John's Schoche kit is the prettiest and best fir for the car.

There is some trimming involved. Magindat could be more specific, but the inside of the hole needs to be cut back, as well as the side tabs. BUT NOT TOO MUCH! You need to leave a little bit o' ear on each side to prevent the unit from falling through and also help 'lock' it into place

Ryan is right. Further, each Avic requires a little bit different trimming of the dash in order to sit right and be secure.

FTW all double din units on the market are the same size when it comes to mounting. our dash is technically a din and a half oppening, however with very very minor modifications you can make it a double din. this is why they might have told you it wont work.

you can also do something diferent IE

btw i believe that kit is the ford schosche FD 1428b double din kit
