I've searched the forum but i have yet to find any info on this or pictures. I've seen the picture of Bruteforce's polished upper intake but I want to paint mine black.
As anyone tried this before and are there any pictures?
What are the steps to paint the upper intake?
Thanks in advance

I got a powder-coated one from greggash. it was his old. He upgraded to polish. I dunno what he went through to get it powder coated.
Painting shouldn't be hard. Prep it right. Tape it carefully and away you go.
If it were me, I'd hang it so it's vertical and not try to paint it lying down. Very light coats drying to a high tack to avoid drips/sags. It's a complicated shape. You'll really have to take your time. I'd also probly use engine block or caliper paint. Further, an etching primer might really help with adhesion to the aluminum.
I painted mine and used a base coat clear coat and it worked great. Make sure you prep it good and use a self etching primer on it.

In addition to what Rich said, you'll also need to smooth it out. The factory finish is very rough and would look bad if painted. You might be able to get away with powdercoating it.

True, but it also might look cool.
My powder-coat is that gray and black hammer-finished look. It camo's the rough original finish quite well.
I got a feeling that after etching primer and some coat build-ups, it might be alright.

I had my upper intake lid powdercoated silver along with my front engine/cam chain cover.
I then painted the rest of the intake manifold silver with a spray can to match.
It all turned out really nice...the powdercoating is nearly bulletproof.

Just remember that it will hold in more heat. Any mod to apperence best suited would be to polish it.

Does anyone have a line on either pre-polished intakes or someone who will polish them or offers this type of service? Not to highjack the thread... Just curious. - C
I am having mine done now and I can tell you its not cheap.
As far as painting if you lay the clear on them you will find that the finish is quite smooth. Mine held up very good for two years. I would paint it again but think it may be cheaper to powder coat.

I'd love to have that!
Since we are talking about intake makinglookerbettering, how exactly do you polish it to get that shine? Use the stock one and polish it or what?

I had it powdercoated silver. Polishing aluminum is a LOT of work and WAY TOO much trouble to maintain!
The powdercoating is pretty thick and it acts to smooth out some of the intake casting's roughness.

Yep!
Check under the 'Forums' header for the 'Supporting Vendors' list;
Colex Customs has a link there.
Click the 'Products' title - Marauder line' on Colex's website and you can see some of the awesome CNC work that Daniel has done.
He'll make the coil covers with just about anything machined into them.
He also makes Godshead coil cover bolt caps and other fluid fill caps in machined aluminum.

Actually I'm not offering it. I had a polished that I bought from DirtyDog for 250 plus exchange of my unpolished. My understanding is that is his cost. I just passed on the same deal to someone else when the opportunity presented itself. If I can find the time, I'll get yours done and offer it up again... but I'm not offering it as a service.
