I never let it fall below half, I pump about 5 gallons or 20 buck a drink. Gas Station attendants must think I run it on E all the time and nickel and dime it to fill it only when lights come on, and engine starts shuddering.

By the way, this helps keep the fuel pump/filter from sucking the sediment in the bottom or the tank right? or is just my ol' man being paranoid.

DID YOU get miles driven on that tank?
I pumped a measley 18.6 once.

I'd be having the State division of Weights and Measures running a check on the station's pump calibration....

+1^

I have ran my car out of gas and is still only took 17.6
yes I know it is not good for the car but it has not happened again. I was on my way to the station and I felt it stumble at 200 yards away and it died about a 100 yards later and was able to coast to the pump:o

On my last trip I've gone 321 miles on the last tank and it took 16.5 gal. to fill it. I figure I had 2.5 gal. left so I could have gone at least 375 miles before I would have had to push it. And this is with 4.10 gears.

Yes and more! The fuel pump motor is cooled by the gas, running low lets it run "hot" over time it will shorten it's life, new one is about $700. give or take a few $$

Running very low once in a "blue" moon will not hurt.

Is that such a good idea, with the chilly weather we've been experiencing?

I usually get gas right after the light comes on so its about 15.5 to 16 gallons. Isnt our gas tank only a 19 Gallon tank???

I put on 18.6 gallons once. I think that's my record allthough I know I've done 18+ a bunch of times.

A few years ago I had a '94 Thunderbird and it started chugging while going up hill and died. I put the car in nuetral, turned the wheel, rolled it backwards and got it pointed down hill. I started it up and drove it 20 miles back into town.

Wooo, that'll make my pop happy to know, and cost me a quarter. ha!

And hey I still have that new (used) car infatuation. Give me a year or three and MAYBE I'll start in on cashing my blue moon credits. :D

While this is correct most of us would not attempt to do this. So I was ballparking a number that a shop might charge to do this. The tank has to be dropped correct? In my area {metro Phila.} the hourly rate is $90. or close to it so that where I come up with my numbers.

It does pay to handy with a wrench:up:

No, you don't have to drop the tank to change the fuel pump.

An entire fuel pump swap done by a competent mechanic with a lift cann be done inn under an hour, without dropping the tank.

I dont know what the book time states for the job

Having been the victim of the bad sock syndrome on my last Ford, I never let the tank go below 1/4. Usually fill up when its just below 1/2 during cold weather.

I have one new in the box.

As for me, I once put in 17 gallons when my MM was in E. I hope that I never have to go that far down again.

I believe the most I put in my tank was 17.8 gallons.

Unless mistaken, our tanks hold about 19.4 gallons.

In the past, Ford had a designed gas tank that would shut off the pump, gallons before the tank was at or near capacity.

This would require many extra minutes of 'babying' the gas into the tank (which is not recommended) to fully top it off.

Anyone know if the low fuel light blinks when at or near empty?

Mike.

The MM never goes below 1/4 tank. Now my work truck, I dang near ran out of fuel completely last night. The rear tank went dry and the engine quit, I got it started on the front tank and drove 3-4 miles to the next exit. As I got off the highway the engine started to spit and sputter and I made it another 3/4 of a mile to the BP. I had to wait for a hole in traffic to shoot into the station and had to turn the truck around to get to the diesel pump. It stalled out right as I stopped at the pump.

I've put in about 64 litres, but that was only when it neared 1/4 full. I've never seen the gas light come on.

17.5 Gallons.

I got 376 miles out of the prior fill. I usually do not let it get that far, but I was on a Rochester run and waited. I have 4.10's and run a hot tune, drive between 75 and 90 on the highway, and nail it at just about every standing start. (once a drag racer, always a drag racer....)

I did give it two extra hits after the filling pump did the auto shut off thing.

The manager was not in, but I left him my card and car info. If I do not hear back, I will call Weights and Measures.....

I am wondering what the Maximum Capacity of our tank and fill tube is. If it is 20 gallons, i'm good with that.. If not, Huston, we have a problem.....

I average about 16 to17 gallons per fill with the marauder and the vic. the most i think i ever put in my vic was ALMOST19 gallons. And if im not mistaken both cars have 20 gallon tanks.

I usually use the Marauder as my hwy. car so I get good MPG. Last tank was 376 miles and I could only fill 16.55 gallons after the fuel pump stopped for a 2nd time.

My light comes on early at around 15 gallons spent. Once, while still new, it pi$$ed me off and I decided to just keep going until I lost my nerve. 63 miles later I could take it no longer and stopped for gas. Guess what? The tank could only be filled with 17.15 gallons after the fuel pump stopped for a second time.

I usually fill at a qtr. tank so I don't see the light too often.
