So as I'm removing the bulb hoods from the factory driving lights, I see a sticker with my VIN number on it along the bottom of the bumper cover edge. In a much larger font below it, it shows the number 8102. Any ideas what that is??
According to RoyLPita, my car is 1758 of 3213 (04 SB with all options), so I'm wondering if it's just a part number? Thought as a part number it would be much longer though.
Ideas??

Ideas??Probably just the sequence number of the vehicle moving down the line that day. Has nothing to do with VIN or 1758 of 3213. Once the car is ready to proceed down the line, it's given a number, the car before was 8101, the one after was 8103. In this instance, the front fascia (bumper cover) was probably selected in an area away from the line, and put on a feeder line leading to the the main assembly line, or put in a rack and brought to the line, where the operator took it from the rack or line, checked that bumper cover 8102 got installed on vehicle 8102.
I spent 30 yrs at FORD, Lorain/Ohio Assembly, The last 24 yrs in the Econline system. When I retired, they used to run the sequence number up to about 9000, before they started over at Job 1. It was just a quick way to keep track of vehicles presently on the line, instead of trying to check out of sequence VIN numbers.
Hope this helps.

I found a piece of tape on a wiring harness behind the front bumper that read... "86 P". Apparently some guys were placing lunch orders with the help of my car and didnt want pickles.
