Aside from the benefits of shift improvements and a significant weight reduction, what benefits does the PI TC provide in terms of strength? Does supercharger without a new TC = destruction? Are there other areas in the trans that need addressing when adding significant power? Where is the weak link?

A converter swap by itself, will not change how the trans shifts. It may feel different though. When you up the power level, you need to make the shifts occur faster via both EEC and valvebody changes. You'll find good information here:
