View Full Version : IDing a modded Marauder?

Apologies in advance, since I am sure this has been asked and I just didn't find it.

Is there any telltale signs to look for in identifying a modified Mercury Marauder, for instance, at a dealer?

Intake, exhaust, etc is obvious. I am more concerned with things like 4.10 gears and torque converters. Is there is an RPM/speed range to look for to ID the gears? I know it would be different than the stock 3.55s, but am not sure what was normal and what is modded, and since most dealers would object if I pulled the cover off the rear....

Thanks in advance!

go to sunshinestatemarauders.net

go to info

download the excel sheet for the 4R70W ratios.

enter 724 for revs per mile (stock rear tire) and 3.55 for gears, then 4.10 for gears and it'll tell you what rpm in what gear for what rear.

Pull the inspection cover.
Purple TC = PI
Grey = Stock

Awesome. I didn't realize there was an inspection cover. That answer seemed far too obvious!

Maybe not. The inspection cover isn't the easiest thing to get to. You need to be on a lift or able to get under the car with a mirror and flashlight.

Driver's side at about 2 o'clock on the bell housing (if you were looking down the shaft). Strangely shaped rubber plug.

Good luck there. Not too many places would put it on the lift for you to do that.

I have a friend with a lift. I'd just have to test drive it to his house. heheh.

It will also help me after I buy one, so I can check it before ordering parts without having to remove the transmission. I had enough fun pulling transmissions with my current car.
