Um... Why wouldn't you? As far as I'm concerned, you can NEVER have too much of a good thing.

I can see for two people, but for one person. Why get a 2nd marauder instead of something else as a 2nd car?

Say an Aviator or a Lightning.

'cause you can't drive them both at once? ;) If there is more than 1 person in the house go for it!! If not... maybe have one that is stock and one that you can dump alot of money in!!

...by owning a fleet (2 or more) of Marauders, you can gain experience of the ownership, familiarity with maintenance, trouble-shooting, & (a potential) volume discount on parts purchases.

You gain an exponential of benefit when you increase the economies of scale.

examples:
1) if you have 10 Marauders, you could get a discount on the purchase price of oil filters! (by buying a case of 12 at a time).

2) by doing your own maintenance, you become familiar with proceedures, and shorten time requirements of your efforts.

3) if you have a local service garage provide maintenance, they might offer you a discount on parts & service (a "fleet discount"), for exclusive patronage.

4) never overlook the prestige of ownership! If you live on a heavily travelled residential street, by consistantly parking 4 Marauders in your drive, the neighbors & media will notice. Especially if the 4 are all (the most desirable) black color.

This could lead to local & even national recognition. You would be known as a "hip" or "groovy" "dude" (not a dude in the sense of a guest on a dude ranch- a dude meaning an "OK" guy).

A member of the female sex owning a fleet of Marauders would likewise gain respect and admiration. Recognition in the Guiness book of world records is even a possibility.

These are just a few examples. The GreekGod can think of many more, but he grows weary. One of the GreekGod's strong points is being an idea man. If he was younger, he would consider offers of employment as a consultant.

You NEED a second MM so that you can convert it into a 5 speed manual. Of course.

What Natalie said!! In addition, I hated leaving the Blackbird in the driveway all winter....certainly too much power for the snow. We had a Taurus for winter driving and I so longed for better weather to get Blackbird back on the road. By having a second Marauder, Phoebe, I'm able to drive an MM daily, year-round. Winter tires on Phoebe. Phoebe makes the dump runs and we don't have to rent a car to go to Boston. Phoebe's silver birch color is also better for looking clean. Phoebe is not stock and has a good basic setup with exhaust, control arms, UDP, girdle and stud kit, PHP spacer. Blackbird has more bells and whines.... :woohoo: I am the primary driver of each... :D

I was just wondering if a 2nd marauder could be justified in place of an Aviator. Aviator is basically a smaller, yet does more, Marauder. Everything except MPG but I drive so little, in distance, that hardly matters. The extra cargo hauling and towing might be nice too. I guess I need to go test drive an Aviator; who knows I might hate it.

But then Would I get a 2nd Marauder in place of a Lightning? Again I can see if I had a SC Marauder, i Don't track race, winter would not be overly nice to drive in. I suppose I could have a winter tune for winter but couldn't I just make a Lightning into a Marauder sc beating vehicle? Plus all the advantages of a truck.

So here i am, I like Marauders.

I havn't driven an Aviator or a Lightning, they are hard to track down locally. I'm not sure I fit in an Aviator with the sunroof, problem with being tall, and while I have driven a few Exploders, they all felt tippy.

However having a good towing capacity is something I want. Not being able to carry home my recent sofa purchase is something I don't want to go through again. I would also like to be able to use my Canoe sometime too.

So why would I want a second Marauder? Other than Marauders are cool.

(i'm the only one who drives where I live)

The Aviator has one of the most beautiful dash & instrument panels Ford ever made. They also have a reputation as being trouble prone (by Consumer Reports magazine).

I love both vehicles, but they are very different beasts...

For a taller person (I'm 6'6"), the Lightning is (I find) a more comfortable seating position, with a fair bit more head room than the Marauder. Towing capacity is 5000lbs, and you can easily put a load of stuff in the bed. I know Lightning owners that tow their Lightning to the track with another Lightning. A sofa, or canoe is no problem.

You can haul stuff, and haul ass. It's crazy how fast they can be, for relatively cheap. There's a healthier afternmarket for the Lightning... I've got under $3000 CDN into mine in performance parts (far less if I hadn't made purchases when the exchange rate really sucked), and can run 12.5's all day, with no drivability / reliability concerns. One would need to spend a fair bit more to make the MM run the same. Adding a SC is how you turn the MM into a Lightning beating vehicle (assuming it's still stock).

The other thing is that, given the aerodynamics of the truck, it's really all about the 0-80mph range. 500+ torque (modded, like mine) gives it that raw, brute force feeling, that I love, making it even quicker than the 1/4 mile time implies, when compared to most cars on the street. Handling would be very close between the two, stock versus stock. I think the Lightning feels a little more capable in twisties, but I could be wrong. Again, a healthier aftermarket can help a lot in the handling department, too.

The Lightning is, however, FAR less refined than the Marauder... I would still pick the MM over the Lightning for a daily driver / trip taker, despite the slightly more comfortable seat in the truck, and not just because of the better MPG.

The Marauder has enough room for more than driver + 1. Your sttuff can be securely stowed in the trunk (though you could buy a hard tonneau cover for the truck). The Marauder has a better ride quality (the L is a truck, afterall) and better creature comforts. The car is quieter in general and there is less road noise. The Marauder also has a "classier look" IMO... You know all of it's benefits, so I won't waste to much time on it...

Personally, I wouldn't think of using a Lightning as a winter vehicle (I know others that do, but I never would). There's almost no weight over the rear wheels, and way too much torque for any skinny little winter tire you put on (the stock 295-45-18 Goodyears are NOT going to cut it in cooler temps, let alone snow). The rear WILL slide around. Hills/driveways WILL be difficult to climb from dead stops. Even if you never ever saw boost, it's not going to be a easy ride - you wil feel stressed after a 15-minute drive in the winter conditions. Honestly, the Lightning isn't even that great a vehicle in the rain, for the reasons listed above.

Add to that this easy to remember equation: Moderate to high boost + cold weather = not good. As my MM is my daily driver, I've resisted the desire to put an Eaton on top of the engine, for just that reason. Too many boosted engines have a self installed window, as a result of a little too much pedal in the winter...

I guess it really depends on what you're looking for. Given your location, I would not recommend the L as your only vehicle. If it was to be the one with "toy" status, sure. Daily driver, no.

For me, if I had to do it all over again, one of each seems to be the perfect mix, for me :burnout:

We will be in the market for a second MM shortly. My wife loves the Trilogy car and I'd like to find one for her to drive daily and leave mine parked. We've also got a 95 Cobra for a playtoy when I feel like shedding 900lbs.
