Positraction unit is worn out. Either new posi clutches (along with a rebuild kit) or a better posi unit (mechanical type rather than clutch type) will fix it.
Exactly, ^^^^^. Cost is expensive, $275 for labor plus parts, friction modified and gear oil. I have the same problem and am saving up. Expect cost to be around $500.00 unless you can do it yourself or have s special arrangement with someone.
Also be aware than other incidentals may need to be replaced, bearings, seals, clips, axels once the rear end is disassembled. This would be a good time to inspect your emergency brake (both sides) for any maintenace that may be needed.
The cost of ownership is not cheap on modern high performance cars.
If you drag race on a regular basis or do a lot of burnouts you might want to consider an upgrade posi unit like Eatons. The stock unit does not seem to take a lot of punishment. Sorry to be the bearer of this news, but you can continue to drive the car in a normal fashion and use the traction control feature when needed to establish dominance.

LSD go bye-bye.
The OEM unit sucks.
Replace with Auburn or Eaton and be done with it. ;)

I baby the hell out of mine and it still works well at 53K. All the abuse that I have ever given mine is on youtube. I have 4 Videos. Also when driving on the street I never really get on it while turning. When it eventually burns out I plan on getting an eaton.

...so, why is the Eaton a longer lasting solution to worn differential clutches? Methinks it is still a bandage solution to the inherent problem of clutch wear.
Does the Eaton have more/bigger/thicker/better clutch material?
Ford offers a :bows:carbon fiber disc:bows: Traction-Lock rebuild kit for our 8.8". Would it make equal the performance of the Eaton?

The rebuild kit for the trac loc is like 60 bux... it can be done in an hour if you'd done it before.. its actually pretty easy
