Making a long story short... I was working when I heard a neighboring county deputy call out that he was behind a vehicle that was taken in a possible car jacking. Myself and another officer started heading in his general direction in an attempt to head them off and possibly stop the pursuit before it began. We rounded the corner, bad guys saw us, and the chase was on. Its hard to run when you have a stolen dodge minvan, but they gave it the college try. After a short pursuit into another neighboring city, with speeds about 60mph, they turned down and alley throwing up lots of dust and gravel... unbeknownst to us and the theives, the alley went about 50 ft and then took a ninety degree turn. The corner of the alley was not marked but had one fallen tree trunk separating it and the yard. so the stolen van goes over the tree trunk, the county car goes over, and my partner in his CVPI goes over. The thieves bail out of the van and take off on foot because when they went over the log... they ripped the whole bottom end out of the van. The county unit was a newer Chevy Impala, it was wrecked and was puking fluids and front end parts and had to be towed home. The CVPI took a fair amount of damage as well but was driven (limping) back to the garage. In the end the bad guys were caught, but the world in now short one CV. As it turns out, when the car went over it tore the radiator mount loose, bent the front section of the frame and broke the motor mounts, tore the catalytic converter off, ripped the oil pan loose, and did some unknown damage to the drive train. Its now going to the city yard where we will canabalize it for parts when other cars break down.

I know what people are going to ask.. why didn't I hit the log?? Well I was on the other side of the block at that time.. and was.. lost. I knew I was close to where they were at because I could hear the sirens but when they had turned off in the alley I lost them in all the dust. I did get in on the foot chase tho..

Glad you're safe, Hack. Keep on being a hard charger! You never know when life will have you doing something else, and you'll miss the job. I know I do!

*takes off hat*

So passes another P71 . . . dieing only when its partners were safely home . . .

But on the bright side, no one got hurt and the perpetrators were caught.

Agreed one hundred percent....My mother just drove my MM for the first time and said, " Wow, I feel safer in this thing than i do my Durango. I didn't think that i would ever like driving a car again":D

It's a shame than the CVPI is gone, but still I would rather have a car gone then a LEO. Be safe out there.:)

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. We actually do have the in car camera footage from both my car and the wrecked car. I will see if I can get copy of it and possibly post it. As for pics of the car, body wise there is nothing wrong with it.. it looks like it was never even hurt, but the underside looks like it was ran thru a shredder. When it comes to the city yard I will try to get pics of it also.
Oddly enough it wasn't the higher ups that were mad about the wrecked car, it was the day shift officer who drives the car when we are off. He was really mad that the car got wrecked. If he wasn't such a big guy it would be funny.
