What are some really good CAI kits for a N/A Marauder?
How does the JLT stack up against the K&N FIPK?
Has anyone experienced a boost/drop in MPG with the CAI kit?

It has been stated many times that whichever brand you decide to go with, you will like it. I have the K&N FIPK, and noticed an improvement (first mod) in performance and sound level. When you get on it, the growl is more prominent and you feel a little more pep. Other members who have other brands say similiar things. They do have a different look to each of them, and you should look through the photo gallery and check 'em out.
I don't there is really much of a gain / loss in MPG on an N/A Marauder with a CAI added. I didn't really notice one.

JLT is the best IMO for performance and best MOF for price.
Furthermore, they are a site vendor.

How well does the JLT shield block off the residual engine heat compared to the K&N?
I am trying to piece together a kit for my 00 Vic which currently has a Marauder airbox and MAF (so I would just need everything upstream of the MAF).

Im leaning towards the JLT but I like the way the carbon fiber one looks, who makes that one? I cant seem to find it anywhere.

JLT +1 FTW. I believe Rich has said it before, heat shields in CAI kits are basically for "show." I will tell you this though, my car has run flawless (which it should) in the summer getting on it constantly and off and my engine has never been heat soaked with it. Plus for the price, you really can't lose.

I have a JLT, but would go K&N if I had to do it all again. Far superior fit and finish, and no production screw ups like myself and 4 others found with the JLT kit.
Yes, it's true, you get what you pay for.
Power gains are the same, just in different rpm zones for each brand, gas mileage is unchanged for me.
K&N in the marauder and the vic. Love the setup in both of my cars.:2thumbs:

K&N FIPK modifided with Ford Nut's Steeda GT500 filter element for increased filter surface area/more airflow. You will definately feel a performance improvement. Do a search on FordNut posts regarding the Steeda element.

+1 on the JLT here too. Plus Jay is a great guy to work with. Have had mine for over 2 years now with no issues. Was the first mod I bought and went on the day I got the car home and had no issues.

Do your homework and use the search function before you spout. The heatshield opening was too small on mine for the tube/filter to fit through without alot of filing and sanding. Even so, the corners flexed and cracked. Same thing happened to multiple other customers, until Jay and Lisa looked into it. He did, in fact, find that the current inventory was not to specs and I assume corrected them.
All this is posted here on the board. Ultimately, every vendor is resposible for their final product.
I found it was quite ironic that JLT smirked that K&N was more expensive for no good reason. I'm guessing quality control and spec checks do in fact, add some extra cost, along with advertising and endorsements. JLT is a good vendor with a good history and a viable product, and gave fair/average customer service. No disrespect was meant or implied, but your reply....well, you know what I think of it.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember Metco making the carbon fiber CAI. I don't think they make it anymore though.

You would be correct on that sir.
I have used them all except the PHP unit. Roughly identical performance. It comes down to a choice of style. I have the K&N with the GT500 filter.

Oh boo hoo, your heatshield didn't fit! Like it makes a difference anyway? Do a dyno of before/after with a heatshield on the JLT and K&N and let me know how you make out.

Really, that's your comeback? "Boo hoo"? My original point obviously stands. I imagine you'd have said "What a piece of crap!" if the K&N would have had a problem with specs or fit. Guess what; if something doesn't fit/work as advertised, there's a problem. Deal with it. JLT's production company/vendor was screwing up, and thanks to the four of us who got the WRONGLY sized parts, we got Jay to check up on things and FIX THE ERROR.
Getting the JLT to fit together was like getting a bargain engine rebuild kit with no gaskets, but only tubes of RTV silicone and such. You could MAKE it work, but I'd say it was Mickey Mouse and unprofessional. Leaking valve covers? Get over it! Hoses that are stretched to their limit when the engine torques? Deal with it! Does that sound logical to you? You get what you pay for, and with the JLT, it seemed like a good deal. If I and others hadn't had the problem we did, I'm sure I'd have a totally different opinion of it.
As it stands, we did have problems, so we pass it on to make people aware of possible future errors. I'm really not sorry for telling of my (and others) bad experience. I beleive Jay has worked to correct the problem, so we'll have to hear from a NEW purchaser about how it all works smoothly now!:)

Thanks for all of the input. It seems like the K&N FIPK is the best route to pursue, but I can't buy the heat shield separately. If I bought the entire FIPK, I'd be spending over $150 on just the inlet tube and heatshield, and I can't even use the inlet tube.

What is really funny though, on HOW many JLT MM's are out there, and what, you "4" have had problems? Error, replace installer?

And you are correct, I doubt it matters between JLT, Reinhart or others. Although I believe Reinhart has a cleaner design. In any event, it is a quick, easy rbhp add well worth the monies. I did not notice any decline in mpg.

The theory is it helps keep it cleaner longer. Also provides some water resistance. If you were to look at the bottom side, you'd see its pretty dirty.

Seriously, could you just read the posts entirely BEFORE shooting your own foot?:shake:
Jay himself went to check his (then) current stock and told us they were not to spec, just as our weren't. He went to the vendor to have his existing stock fixed, and was going to make sure that future shields would be milled correctly. I see that recent JLT purchasers have had no problems, so our batch was a bad batch that has now been corrected.
For the third time, my original post stands. JLT had a quality control issue, it was noted by multiple buyers, checked and confirmed by Jay at JLT, and then redone properly by his vendor.
Truely, it can't be explained any simpler.
