I just got an oppurtunity to buy a 1987 Grand National GNX in flawless condition with 12,200 original miles.
I have been toying w/the idea of selling my MM and getting this thing.
Here is the scoop on my MM.
2003 300B
FMS 4.10's
SCT XCal custom dyno tune
Kook's mid length headers
Full exhaust, Magnaflows, Megs.
JLT CAI
34,200 miles....FLAWLESS.

I've known the owner since I was 10, lived down the street. It's completely legit. Thanks for looking out though. :) Number 329 i believe.

thanks pal. Now i'm thinking keep the MM and get the GNX anyways. Wonder if the wife will let me buy another toy. Between the boat, 2 motorcycles, and the MM, slim chance, but hey, who knows.

The most a bank would loan (according to our books) is 17,100 on that car. The mods on it really only amount to about 1K - 1.5K on a resale assuming the buyer is performance conscious and a bank gives them no consideration.
I'd ask 19K and go down from there. I think you'd be doing well to sell it for it's max loan value.

Is it just me, or have the values on the MM dropped quite a bit recently? I paid 18,700 for mine in 11/06 with 42k miles, which I thought to be a decent if not great price; I don't think I could get 14k for it now (57k miles). Yes, I did buy from a dealer and the premium for that must be accounted for, but...that amount of depreciation in 1 year on a now 5 year-old car is kinda steep. Maybe because of the rise in gas prices?
Or am I just crazy?

For a bank loan, the dealer premium and prep is accounted for. Every time the year ticks over, loan values drop.

I suspect gas prices are beginning to keep bigger cars on car lots longer. Should be a good time to buy Marauders this year. :)

Right down to the airfilter. He even joked about the air in the tires being 21 yrs old. :D
I dont think I can swing it. Besides, I wouldnt drive it. It would be an investment if anything, but I dont have extra money to make investments right now.

I had an '86 GN that I sold last year. Need the money to pay bills.

You're right on the money. At six years old, the Mercury Marauder is starting to age out. For the person who likes to buy a "new" car, the MM no longer qualifies. As evidence I submit you only need to look at how many MM's are on the market all-of-the sudden. Secondly, the cars are reaching the age-out mileage: From 50K to 70K miles is often when the buyer of "new" cars goes looking for the next one.
Supply and demand is clearly at work. I estimate sale prices will continue to drop until the supply of low-mileage cars dries up. At the moment, there are still plenty of sub-twenty thousand mile cars out there -- and lots of 50K to 70K mile-cars out there.

I think you're wrong. Look at Impala SS', and how many have over 50k, granted those cars are 11 years old ('96 model) that's still a decent amount of miles. What's the lowest price of one of those you've seen? I can tell you I saw one on eBay a while back that had 80k and the buy it now price was almost $15k and it sold for that. Just give the MM time to appreciate.

I agree -- But the prices are going to go down before they go up. That the nature of the car market.
To answer your question about what an 1996 Impala SS costs: Not very much. Log into your eBay account, search for 96 Impala SS, then click on "Completed Items". Many go on the auction block few sell. The best that could be musted was less than $9,000 -- Most people were asking for too much and they didn't sell at all.

Well that is the "people" selling them, they think they have a gold mine. They have to realize that it's 11 years old and could find something much nicer, faster, and more collectible than that for a little more money, not to mention newer. That's why I laugh at people with Fox body's who ask $8k+ for them. Get real. I can see if it was a Cobra, or a nice Saleen, but a regular LX/GT, I don't think so, no matter how nice it is.
