Wacky wiper syndrom...It's common in wet areas...

Water infiltrates the harness and/or wiper motor, and the thing goes wacky...sometimes, it won't stop...

Check the wire harness around the wiper motor for chaffing, and look for water shorting out the circut...

I believe there was a TSB on it...Perhaps someone will post it up...

Good luck...

They replaced the wiper motor and installed some kind of updated wiper motor wiring harness to fix my wacky wipers. Dealer calls it "uncommanded wiper operation". Search on "wacky wiper" and you will pull up some threads.

Here's one thread .... >>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32751&highlight=wacky+wiper+TSB

There's another that gives the TSB number for the "Uncommanded Wiper Operation" -- it applies to ALL panthers .. CV, GM, MM and TC. Basically, water puddles in the catch tray below the wiper motor and shorts it out. Fix is to drill a bigger drain hole (1/4 inch), keep debris out of the area if possible, replace the wiper motor and the pigtail wiring. After that was done I haven't had a reoccurrence of Wacky Wiper Syndrome.

happend to me about 3 months ago. replace the motor and all will be well. or pull the fuse if you need to drive untill you get it fixed. i dont remember which but for some reason number 17 comes to mind. oh yeah its the fuse box under the dash not under the hood

Thanks to all, I called Ford today, and it is as you all say, a water problem. The fuse is 17, I pulled it yesterday, but it's going to snow tonight. The TSB requires the mech. to inspect and take appropriate action. I'm not happy, I purchased this as a certified used automobile, and feel it should have been attended to, is Ford going to wait till we all repair ours, and then put out a recall? The dealer is buying mine or they'll regret that they didn't. My wife had a similar problem with the heater blower motor in her '05 Chevy Silverado, the pigtail ( 1' of 6 wires, and a male connector) cost $100+. Thanks again to all.
