Having owned GM cars for decades, I got spoiled by the fact that when the driver puts the car in PARK, everyone's door unlocked. With FoMoCo cars, only the driver's door unlocks. Out of years of habit, I stop the car and exit, forgetting that I have to hit the button to unlock the door for others. I can understand that for people with small children in the back this might be a good thing to keep the kids from escaping, but it seems there would be a way to let us kid-free folks have all the doors unlock at the same time as the driver's door. I know, all in all this is a pretty small complaint, but it is one which shows itself every time I stop the car with passengers.

Uhm, nope. I'm fine with it the way it is. ;)

Yes, I hate it too....my boys are old enough not to open the door when moving and when I step out they're waiting for me to "release" them. It's a pain in the butt!!! Thank god for the remote. Anyone think it's a "cop" car feature they were too cheap to change?

I feel the same way, two kids and always going BACK to drivers door to unlock! A little anoying....

Ross from a security standpoint you want the doors to remain locked while in park. Its a small step toward personal security. I am willing to bet new GM cars no longer auto-unlock.....This feature may be changeable by the dealer if it really bothers you give them a call.

Well out here........(way out west)............automatically unlocking doors invites intruders....................y ou have no control over someone jumping in your car all of a sudden................:depress :

We also have a Jeep, Chrysler product, and it unlocks all the doors when placed in park. Its also an '03. Much more convenient.

My 2003 Chevy Impala SS is the same way, have to unlock the doors manually. You might want to check the owners manual for the Marauder, seems to me that there might be a way to program/unprogram certain features on the car, such as turning off the seat belt chimes when you arent wearing the belt. I did that a while back and thought I read something about disabling the auto lock/unlock feature... I'm at work and don't have my manual...someone look that up for us?

Check the owner's manual for possible modifiable actions on that lock/unlock feature. I know that certain behaviours used to be modifiable on my 96 grand marquis, but it may be that you can only disable auto-lock and not change the actions of how it works, if selected. In other words, you may be able to totally disable it or totally enable it only.

This drove me nuts too. There is a way to disable the auto lock feature all together, which I did. You use the original key code and the keypad on the door. I read it in the manual. I understand the reason behind the safety feature......but here in Kansas City, we don't have any crime. (yeah right)

I disabled the autolock feature before I even drove off of the dealer lot with my Marauder. I only wish it was as easy as in the Lincoln LS that I leased before buying the Marauder. If the LS is equiped with the command console, it's as simple as the push of a button.

With the Marauder, I think you have to stand on your head and slam the trunk lid three times while someone in the passenger seat puts their head in the glovebox... err... at least from what I remember.

it annoys me to. when my passengers pull and pull on the door handle, not realizing its locked. On the front doors, it automaticly unlocks the door when you try to open it. Maybe the rear doors can be fitted with the same device...

Hilarious. But that only works if it's sunny and before 6:00 p.m. local time. If it's raining or after 6, the other person has to stick their head in the driver's side rear map pocket (but only after they've counted six red cars and one Hummer driving by).

I understand the security aspect. That's why here in Texas I have the one indispensible modification--- a .45 auto mounted in a holster on the driver's side of the console, as well as one on my hip. Let the bad guys try to break into this MM! If I don't get 'em, my wife will!

I like the self locking feature. As stated above the front doors open even though the lock buttons are down. This feature is stright from the Police Inceptor. Lets the officers out while keeping the perps locked in the back. My 2003 Silverado doors lock when the truck is put in gear and open when you put it in park. Not to good from a safety standpoint. But my cars are protected by Glock. I perfer the locks on the MM even though you must push the lock button to let the rear passengers out.

The feature doesn't bother me at all. It can be disabled, it's all in the owners manual.

I had remote start put on right after I got the MM. At first the doors all unlock and the inside lights come on as soon as you shut off the engine. I re-programmed it not to do that. Its good to have a choice.....

I do not mind the doors auto-lock system . For me it provides a
sense of security , and prevents strangers from opening the rear door like some fool the other night that tryed to get into the rear door while waiting ona red light . I cracked the window open and asked what are you doing and he stated that he thought that
I was a friend of his . I told him to step back or my friends :
SIG-SAUER and their 16-Little friends would have to speak up .

Okay, I guess I'm first to the answer here.

Open your rear doors, look at the end of the door, remove sticker that says 'child security lock' or some such, use small screwdriver to flip switch. Rear doors should now be able to be opened from the inside.

Even with the child proof lock Disabled the driver still must
unlock the door from the front door control .

^true^

I personally have never seen a GM do this... but then again, the oldest one I've riden in was a 99 maybe? I dunno...

I like my auto-lock. It's got me to the point that I lock the doors when I take off in any car that doesn't have it. A nice safety feature indeed!

I wish the rears were the same as the fronts, too. Locked or not, pull the handle and the door opens.
