Sorry, I just wanted to vent to some car guys. Umm I dont know about how outrageous this trend is in your area but in the DC area, I see ALOT of people with "air vents" on their cars. NO matter the car, corolla, civic, towncar, CV, you name it, I have spotted them. Is there a reason why? Just to make the car look better or are ppl actually using them for their purpose? Let me put some on the MM and I may get :banned:just for the reason. Sorry once again, but I am curious also.

 Humor me:lol:

Are you skeaking of the vent gaurds over the windows?

If so they are great to have.

Just crack the window a little in the rain and you'll see:)

If not then carry on.

I know, I just passed two different Altima's today that had them on the front fenders.

No the air vents on the fenders. The vents on the windows I want those!

I also see alot with the fake tack on hood scoops. Blech! And yes seems trendy around these parts...for whatever reason.

Then again I also spotted a mid-80's oldmosbile sedan with a towel-rack used as a rear spoiler.

I think it started with the Escalade.... or Buick.... now they are everywhere cause it looks "rich" or something.

I'm no racist, but I tend to see these on cars driven by a certain race.

It's just $7.00 stick-on-bling from Autozone. Nothing to get too worked up about.

The Land Rover has on the right fender that is functional.

Yeah, I've seen lots of Ricers and other turds on the DC Beltway with those fake 'Buick' ports glued on the front fenders....

IMHO they are really stupid looking unless you actually have an older Buick!

What is wrong with people and these stick on port holes?

I promise you that I saw a guy driving a Rolls Royce with these fake portholes.

I would not believe it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. I promise you, it is true.

I have seen them on cars that had a trash bag in place of a window. These losers will do anything it will allow them to use the word "bling" more often.

I honestly don't think this is any different that putting SS Inserts, or Bob White decals, or eBay stickers on our indentations on the bumper. We just have a little more money to do it up classier.

Now that thar's funny, I don't care who ya are.

That ranks right up there with the jeep I saw with dowel rod/duct tape roll bar.

C'mon, it was a 1 and a HALF inch dowel!

Everyone knows that real roll bars must at least be 2" dowels.

Yeah, absolutely no difference at all. Fake Buick ports -- gotta get me about 24 of those. Just 12 for each side and maybe even a couple on the back bumper just below the SS Inserts. ;)

No, it's a lot different.

If you don't have money you buy the materials and a hobby knife and do it yourself.

Those stick on body parts aren't even all that CHEAP. I'll bet a set of stick on fender portals isn't that far off from the cost of SS inserts.

You can do cheap appearance mods. The key is class. I know this 'cause I did it on my first car which was pretty much kept running by a few wrenches, my hands, and a few cable ties. Anything I did as an appearance mod was DIY cause that's what my wallet would support and I can still look back and say most everything made the car look better.

Jeff Foxworthy will pay a finders fee for that one. LOL.

But to answer your question, yes, I've noticed the fake port holes on many different car models. Some are junkers but a lot of high dollar newer cars are sporting them as well.

YBM's are the biggest affectionados. A trend until something else comes along. The current fad seems to be
those huge 24" free spinning wheels, portholes and hood ornaments. Blue and red's are the colors of choice also full body advertisments, like M&M's candy, Mountain Dew and others. Whatever makes your image.

Remember, Marauder owners are probably not the target audience, it's other YBM's.

The Buick ventiport - or porthole - is among the most recognizable typological references in automotive design. It first appeared in 1948, when designer Ned Nickles, influenced by World War II fighter planes, added a customized pair to the Roadmaster.
Soon after, large, round ventiports were included on several Buicks in the line-up. Some models had three per fender; others had four.

Ventiports went on hiatus in 1958 and 1959, but returned in a more streamlined form in the '60s. For the next forty years, they came and went.

I still don't think it's that much different that the appearance mods done to Marauders everyday. Stickers in the bumpers, on windows, gutter-guards in the lower-air-scoop (I like this one), etc. How about air-brushed wolves? Some guys here have functionless antennas on their trunks because they like they way the look!

I guess what I'm saying here is just because somebody chooses to decorate their car in a way you don't like, doesn't automatically make them an idiot to be avoided! That's prejudice -- I'm not a fan.

It is the Buick Port Hole syndrome all over again... JCWhitney in the 60s had all kinds of that stuff. Now the front fender triangular vents are showing up on all kinds of factory new cars. Even the Maserati Quadroporte. The Fords seem to have a bunch of them on Focii and Fusion and Supah Dooty....Just another styling cue passed from Designer to Designer in the bars. Most of the holes have no purpose such as fresh air intake or heat venting...just bling....I am so happy our Panthers are plain Janes...(at least most of them)

Everybody wants to have a wannabe Buick.

They look great on Buicks....or a classy car...or if they are functional.

Here in Philly, every crappy car has them. I saw a beat up Explorer where the fake vents were the nicest thing on it...and they weren't even on straight.

Like the hood, pins are so-so. Maybe if they were in black.

Anyway, makes a big difference in the overall look of the car, sweet!

When towel rack spoiler is employed to its fullest potential with a wet towel wrapped around, it provides more downforce than tipical ricer spoilers at low speeds (the recommended speed range for most of these cars)

I actually liked one car I saw these port-holes on- it was a Chrysler 300 with a chrome grill and bigger chrome wheels (maybe 18"). Not my style, I'm not that much of a 'playa'

22" emblems. This is the real problem.:fishslap::hotrice::po ke:

Someone put 1978 Trans Am fender vents on their Marauder and advised he paid $4,440 to have it done.

I think they put the vents on his pants by mistake and the money fell out.
