I recently ordered a Meziere electric water pump from Reinhart Automotive.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The pump arrived without the Meziere wiring kit

and LED to monitor power to the pump (no guarantee the pump is actually working; just has power). Dennis sent the wiring kit and LED to me soon afterwards. However, one key part may be needed: the metal coolant recovery tank.

On the way home from work, my Marauder starting smoking from under the hood! I pulled off the freeway and raised the hood. Radiator fluid has splashed out of the plastic, stock coolant overflow tank through the plastic cap on top - all over my engine (thus, the smoke).

I had my car towed to my local garage and discovered the stock coolant overflow tank cap was shot and needed replacing. The auto technician stated a mere pound or two of extra pressure could cause the problem. He felt the new electric water pump was doing a great job circulating fluid through my engine, but the stock coolant overflow tank and cap was not appropriate for the pump. I immediately ordered a WR100S (shipped overnight) for installation.

Moral of the story - get all three parts from whomever you order from in the first place.

this doesnt sound right.......pressure raises boiling point. it sounds like the coolant boiled. why would you need a different overflow for an electric pump? ive never heard this........

BS on the pressure being due to electric water pump. More likely that you have air in your system and you overheated. That's where the pressure came from.
3+ years with Meziere here. No overflow ever.

You had air in the system, no doubt. Be glad you didnt cook your engine!

No one on this site, as far as I know have needed, or bought the metal recovery coolant tank, and if I was to guess at the reason why the car had the issue, is it had air in the cross over pipe, there at least 30 or more of us that run this pump. I know of no one that has had the issue you are describing, I know of one member that added the bulldog alarm, no longer sold or made, and there relay was not wired right and it about fried his engine, the pump pulls very little current some members run the pump with no relay at all, I feel it is just a bad set of circumstanced for you, it in no way casts any shadow over this pump, it is a very good product I ran one on my SC Mark 8 for five years, I have one on my Marauder." Based upon Dennis Reinhart reply and so may knowledgeable Marauder owner replies, I believe I have air in the coolant system. I will return the overflow tank and continue efforts toward bleeding out the air.
I forgot a key point. I recently bought a wonderful digital gauge from Reinhart Automotive - the AeroForce Interceptor scan gauge. Among many other measurements, the gauge can be used to measure the temperature of the coolant after the electric water pump. The LED only tells you the pump has power; not actually working. The scan gauge tells me the pump is working and how well.
Thanks Dennis!

Cut off a funnel to snugly fit the filler hole. Fill the funnel. Run the engine 'till the stat opens. Watch the bubbles in the funnel. When the bubbles stop, you're done. No air this way EVER.
Yes the Interceptors are cool. I went through 7 prototype sets and gave the graphic to Todd. Marauder set #1 is in my car.
And you can set the lights to come on if the coolant exceeds a certain temp!
