View Full Version : Questions on the FIT kit

Hey guys, I am a newbie to the MM side of the world and recently purchased an 04 with an FIT kit and have some questions. This car had the kit installed and was put into storage, hell it hasn't even been tuned yet.
Any way, the tube routing going in to and out of the intercooler seems weird and the tubes under the car hang REALLY low. I was wondering if someone with this same kit could post up some pics or help me with the routing....? Oh I should mention also that the intercooler is mounted up high instead of down low. Thanks in advance for your guys' input and assistance.

The pipes should be above the top of the plastic spoiler.
Do a search for pics. See the Archives for a link to the vendors web page.

My intercooler was originally horizontally mounted, but to gain ground clearance I did some modifications to route the pipes around the radiator. It took a couple of extra 90's, but I didn't notice a significant drop in boost.
See this thread for the gist:

I'm sure the vertical mount could be adapted similarly.

Here are some pics, not sure if I need to trim some of the rubber connectors or...?

That does not look right or safe. No ground clearance.

Nice and very steathy, I like it!
I am thinking I may just put the front up in the sir tomorrow night and just start from scratch.

Hence my concern.:D
The directions in the FIT kit are very unclear as to how the pipes get routed.
Its an easy fix

It doesn't look like the right tubes were used in the right place. I've uploaded a pic of the tubes laid out on the ground (a pic Greg sent me awhile back) for reference.
I think the tubes are correct.
The collars are so long on the kit, it leaves a lot of room for error.

Yeah, at a quick glance it appears all is in the proper location and I was wondering if maybe I just needed to do some trimming on all of the rubber "elbows"... maybe...?

No, just loosen the clamps and tighten the space between the pipes.
When routed correctly, the pipes should pass through the plastic panels (cutting required) behind the bumper.

Cool I will get it in the air tomorrow night and take a look at it. Would it help to put soapy water or anything else on the pipes to help them work into the rubber fittings or is it not that tight of a fit?

Frankly only a retard would hook something up like that.
At least he had enough sense not to drive it.:D
I would get a set of instructions completely take it apart and reassemble the entire kit.
Beats the heck out of blowing the motor or having multiple break downs.

+2! ....RE-DO!
JEEZ!!
That mess could only have been hooked up by a Ricer Plumber named Rube Goldberg!
The direction will not help.
Just do it with common sense.
An evaporating silicone spray will help with the collars.

Zack, as of right now the passenger side goes through the side of the plastic panel that has been cut. Should the drivers side do the same or stay tucked up tight underneath?

both sides go thru the plastic. If you cut off the useless pieces of steel hanging from the frame that were used to pull the car thru the factory, you'll have miles of clearance. Just cut 'em off. Leave the weld bead and smooth the cut.
With those out of the way, you'll instantly see the path behind the bumper, around the outside of the fame and then up.

Could I ask a huge favor and request some pics? I would like to make sure I am doing it correctly if I am going to do some hacking.
I spent some time today and got the passenger side tucked up decently, but the drivers side is still scary. Also if I route the drivers side through the plastic on the side, how does the radiator hose route..?

Given how it looks when it was finished, and you bought the car, I would have to wonder if anything else was done wrong when it was put in.
You might want to take the whole thing out, redo the install, do it right and check everything during the process.

What Zack Said about the Directions is correct. Throw them in the trash! After you get everything assembled the way you like it, Make sure you go over everything a few times. My Lower intercooler hose blew off one night and scared the crap out of me. Carry a 5/16's or 8mm Socket and ratchet in your glove box. U wont be sorry. Feel free to PM me for any questions. Put together a detailed list of questions and ask the "original purchaser" to ask FIT on your behalf.
If that does not work try the "original mfg." and call ProCharger.;)
Do an internet search they are still listed as an official ProCharger Dealer and are required to provide a certain service level.

Where there is some of my problem. The original owner is in the military and is on active duty so it is tough for him to contact FIT and that is why I contacted them myself.
As far as ProCharger is concerned I was under the impression that the kit was put together by FIT using their product so i wasn't really sure if they would have any real usable info. Besdies I am getting a whole lot closer to where I need to be here with the help of my fellow MM owners.

I don't have the specific pictures you're asking but here is some pics that might help:
I went to install the IC behind the bumper for stealth reason (IMG264), I welded the 2 main directional change to the IC (ICpipe), then did the (outpipe) from the supercharger to the IC. I redid the (IAT pipe) from out the IC to the front of engine block and I relocated the surge valve atop the engine compartment to protect it from road debris (valpipe).
....
snowbird
02-19-2008, 04:54 AM
Now, here one from the driver side with those little change (elbowvalve). My aim was perfect ground clearance and stealthness.
So to answer your question, I did follow the basic original route behind and under the driver side rad hose.
In your case, (assuming you don't want to redo in aluminum pipes), you might want to buy one or 2 extra bends and start from either the IC or the throtthle body and work your way to the other end by clearing the obstacles you encounter. This is to give you some more ways to do it.
You can adapt to what you encounter and follow the rough itinary. It just take time and patience.

Greg has been getting hammered with quuestions about 2nd, 3rd and even 4th hand used 'kits'. Guys, he's not responsible for the install and CAN'T be responsible for a 'kit' that's no lnger his kit! Cut him a break.
hy, make sure you have the right fuel injectors. They should be blue and make sure you have a big fuel pump installed. You may need to actually pull it and look unless Zack or someone can tell you how to tell otherwise.
My tubing is done very much like the welded tubing you saw pic of in this thread, only I didn't weld.
Maybe Local Boy could post pics of the things he cut. He just did his.

That useless piece of steel that hangs down from the frame in the front that the factory assembly line used to pull the chassis down the line....
Is there another name for it?

Yeah I have head about the factory "pull tab", but I have not done a search for them as of yet.
My main concern tube routing wise on the drivers side is if the tube should go straight back or route out towards the drivers side so it will tuck up like the passenger. Once it is complete I will post pics so any one in the future can easily see what it should be.
As for Greg, he has to live with his level of service not me, word of mouth can be good and bad advertising. Fact of the matter is, is that if he had better details in his instructions or on his website he would have to be contacted or "bothered" by those pesky customers with money. I am not trying to start a huge rant or a back and forth about him, his company and his service, but my thinking is this; why would I buy anything else from him if this is the way he wants to treat current or potential future customers......?
Yes it has the blue injectors (60lb?) and I was told by the former owners that the bigger pump was installed.
Thanks to everyone willing to help and supply pics, it is a great help!
Ill chime in to defend Greg.
He advertised his FIT business for sale a while back, no one bit. He's a busy guy who started the company as a small hobby and grew into something bigger than what he expected.
To those who were customers of his, you got treated exceptionally. It seems FIT kits are the most re-sold kits out there, so its hard for him to help people with altered kits etc.. Also, time is money. There is no more money to be made for a guy who recently announced he was pulling out of the SC game here on .net.
Cut him a break, any and all questions ANYONE has can be answered by any of the 30 FIT owners that dwell here.

But that doesn't excuse his complete refusal to help. He could have spent a couple of minutes on the phone and been a hero...he could have offered to e-mail a couple of pix or something...instead he chose the easy way out.
