Pro 4.6LDOHC Mechanic Help
I am at my wits end. As I mentioned in my bio I bought my all stock MM oct8th 07 and within two weeks and less than 1200 miles the weather got cold and I noticed that the heater was not up to par and I had to add some coolant. Other than that the car ran good.
Long story short, Dealer told me to pound sand, no warranty. Trusted pro mechanic tore into it and found blown head gasket, both heads were warped. $4600 bucks later and now have great heat but this is where we need help.
The car will “shake” while holding constant speed. Kind of a jitter. Accelerates/decelerates fine. 80 percent of the time the engine will knock like a tractor at idle (left bank rear valves is where it sounds like it is coming from). The other 20 percent it is nice and quiet but will still do the herky jerky while holding constant speed. Any Speed. Last week the check engine light came on and said #4 coil pack bad. Replaced it and absolutely NO change.
I could use any advice or creative comments. My dream car has turned into my biggest nightmare. Could this be a tranny issue? PCM? Fuel pressure is good, compression is all good. I need this to be right because I want to install a Lidio tune and be cool like everyone else here.
Thanks

#4 is the last one back on the passenger side per Ford tradition fyi. Driver's side heads were bad on some early ones.. I think I remember that it was crooked guides or something like that. Dennis (above) can help you out for sure. repeat... Do not give up.

Yes, it is an 03 300A. Both heads were replaced but I still have this herky jerky while trying to hold a constant speed. It is even worse with the OD off and the cruise control on. I can swear that I smell burning tranny or power steering burning now and again. I just wonder if my guy got a tranny vacuum line backwards or disconnected. Advice?
It is still very strange that the drivers side will tick like a tractor 1/2 the time and the other 1/2 it is nice and quiet. I am very frustrated, I could have bought a good used CV LX sport and supercharged it by now. But then again, I would not have been able to fly the Marauder Flag!
It might be a tooth off on the timing gear

Its kind of hard to say without seeing it in person.. there are a lot of things that can be happening.. and the description leaves to be desired... Is it pinging.. or is it just valve train clatter that your describing? I don't know what herky jerky means... like a missfire... a buck?
The issue with the drivers side head if like the Aviator is from bad guides normally #7or8.. but that wouldn't cause a missfire.. it be more of a rough idle in gear and you would have lower compression in the affected cylinder... You could hear it when the engine is cranking..

Your Marauder is not suppose to run that way. I have never seen those symptoms reported.
It appears that there is nothing wrong with Marauder but there maybe something wrong w/ who ever worked on it.
Get a second opinon!

I spoke with Lidio and he recommended unplugging the vacuum line to the egr. It ran a little better. So the jerking might be caused by a bad egr or clogged cat.
The Tick in the head is still there 1/2 the time. Checked timing and all looked good. I might have gotten a bad head from the factory. It is a valve clatter and not a ping.
I really appreciate all the advice.
Thanks

maybe make a video... how loud is this clatter, my car has had a clatter all it's life, Motor Trend even commented on it when they tested the car it's so loud. If it's not terribly loud I really wouldn't worry about it at this point (unless you can get that head replaced under warranty... dunno if you replaced with new ones)

I have a 03 300A and nothings been touched on the engine as far as I know. The car as 22,000 miles should I be worried about a head failure?

I have an 03 300A with 65K. 5K has been supercharged and I beat the crap out of it. No head issues.

Just seemed to start this week. No heat at idle, start to drive all OK. This car is pissing me off, However, I did get my Lidio tune last night and MAN WHAT A DIFF! I have to agree with everyone here that each Marauder sold should have come with this tune installed. Still have the herky jerkys at constant speed though. Anyone want to buy this car from me at a premium price so I can buy one that don't piss me off every day?

There's a vac hose or something off somewhere. At constant speed points to EGR. Make sure ALL vac hoses are on. If you have unmetered air coming into the car, closed loop operation WILL be herky jerky.
