Found a good deal on ebay for the good 4.10 gears. This kit comes with the ring and pinion gears, crush colar, pinion nut and shims. I already ordered me a set.

There has been a lot of discussion lately regarding the quality of FRPP gears. It seems over the last year or so they have changed who is manufacturing the gears. I've heard complaints regarding noise and quality from the FRPP gears.

I never found a clear answer, but several performance shops have indicated they no longer used FRPP as a first choice for gear installs.

The shop that did my 4.10's a few years back is now using Yukon gears. You may want to look them up I hear they are good quality.

That same shop was still using FRPP when I went in, and mine are FRPP gears and are noise and trouble free.

From what I understand they are still OK in that they are strong but the cut quality isn't as good meaning it's much harder to get them installed to run quiet. (Easier to get gear whine from what I understand)

Maybe some others have some opinions on this matter...

thanks for letting me know I haven't brought it yet. I wonder why the price went up. Also is the so called "good gears" worth the money and are they really better supposely made in the US.

Not everything is always the best when it comes from the US lol.

Motive gears are made in Italy.

I have replaced the ford gears Now it make 3 times. this time was due to a bad bearing. So now i put in Motive gears . they do have some noise thats louder than the fords.only had them in for a week and so far so good..

How much is a 'noisy' gearset due to the manufacturer?

Or, is it more directly related to the clearances/lash/tooth pattern set up by the machinist when they install the gearset?

If it is more a result of the installation, then what specifications/lash/tooth pattern contributes to a 'quiet' gearset?

Just wondering......as I am about to embark on a rear-end upgrade including Motive 3.90s.
