I was just wondering if anyone has found any problem spots for rust. Have any bubbles started to show anywhere on the body? I know the bottoms of my doors are starting to rust and I am probably going to get it in the body shop in the spring to hopefully stop it from going any further... any places I should be concerned about?

One spot I noticed was inside the trunk, under the 'carpet'. Towards the front of the vehicel where the seam is. It accumulates water and does not drain or evaporate. I think it is due to the fact the trunk lid, when opened, drips water into the trunk.
I dry it up every so often. I also took the precaution and sprayed an epoxy enamel in that area to hinder any rot.
Another area is any place you have picked up a stone chip in the paint.
On my 90 Lincoln, the rear quarter panels, just where the rear bumper cover meets the steel panel, that was a problem area. Same design as our Marauders. Took 12 years for that to show. I suspect it is the clips/scews that hold the bumper cover up. Plus the lip that probably holds water, salt, debris....
That's all I can think of right now.

That was the first place I checked when I bought it because my ranger did the same thing.
I had a '89 Lincoln Town Car and I had it rust in the same place in the rear!!!!!

Yeah, FoMoCo has a reputation of not addressing the 'trouble spots'. I remember every car we had from 1962 though 1976 had frame "issues" So maybe the 2005 models will have fewer areas of concern.

my mom's '92 bronco rotted out in the rear fender wells because of dirt and salt getting up there and sitting on the lip, My 2000 ranger's frame was covered in rust and the bottom of the doors were starting to rot out, my 89 lincoln had the rust on the back fenders are discussed (the bubble was about 3" in diameter and never got any worse than that, the car was mint except for the, I waxed the hell outta that spot.)
In the spring I am going to take it to the body shop and get the bottom of the doors fixed, and will probably do a rubberized undercoating to the frame myself in the driveway over a weekend or something... with gas the way it is I am going to be riding my motorcycle ALOT this spring summer and fall... (help keep the miles of the ole gal as well!) I am at 72,000 and I am not happy about that... last night I got a 60,000 mile service thing in the mail from my dealership!!! I am 10 grand over that!!!

I wound up with rust in the area where the roof meets the C pillar on the driver's side. After a go-around, Ford will cover it, but I have to find a Ford dealer with a body shop that I can trust to do the work properly.
I had written about this problem last year, along with the usual rusty "pock marks" on the front hood and trunk. Ford, naturally, won't cover the pock marks.

Well now that you Mention it i have bubbles forming under the window molding around all the door's. right over the chrome strip, Looks like it could be rust. Anyone else? I'll take Pics soon and get them posted. It's very easy to see. :(

I noticed a lil rust on my roof from fish eyes...I dont know what I am going to do about them...
the front fenders above the wheel, the way they rolled them up holds the dirt in there and they rot, alot of our cop cars have this spot rotted out, even though its easy to clean out you can spra the hose right in there , just to keep the mud from accumulating

Yup, mine is doing the same thing. I only see it under the trim at the rear passenger window though.
My worst problem is on the roof. It started as little bubbles in the center and quickly turned into a full blown mess. I plan to clean it up myself in the spring.

I'll do before and after pix and detail what I used and how I used it.
If anyone would like to throw in their :twocents: about any experience they've had with certain products or procedures, I'm all ears. Otherwise I'm just going to go with research and common sense. :D

Oh wow dont use Krylon for any exterior painting of the vehical.:( Please tell me that was a joke. Now really if you have never painted before take it to the body shop. It takes alot of practice to be able to paint a vehical. The first problem you are going to have is if you are doing a spot repair it is very difficult to be able to blend the clear on a black car. So this requires that either you reclear the entire roof or use a spot clear and over reduce on the last pass to melt the clear and blend the line. As far as paint goes i would only use the top line of PPG. I caution you this is a very big under taking and the problem i see the most that happens is people make mistakes in the process and try to fix them the wrong way. This leads to Fish eyes, cracking, nibs, and alot of other problems. You can do it yourself but u need an air compressor, a good HVLP gun, a wax remover, thinner, primer, paint, clear coat, clear coat hardner, all of your sand papers, tape, and a buffer helps but you can finish it by hand. Its alot of stress and if you do not plain on painting in the future it may not be worth buying all the materials. Good luck and if you choose to do this i will try to help in any way that i can

To redue a part of a car, especially a black car is hard...To fix a spot you have to redue the whole panel...Fix the spot with the HVLP gun, then scotch pad the whole panel to make the clear coat stick to the panel and the wet sand the panel. Good Luck
