Yep! Charged with reckless driving after I rearended one of my local police officer's unit.:bigcry: But, it gets better, I also found out that my driving privelages here has also been suspended for insurance monitoring.:censor:It's actually pretty frustrating how I got in this predictament to begin with. I was out running around town to pay a couple of bills, when I notice a vehicle in front of me. The passenger, male, starts beating the fire out of the driver, female. So doing the right thing, I call 911 and report it. I followed the vehicle so that the police would be able to take care of this guy. They talked to them, and they deny anything has happened and everything is fine.:shake: The cop tells me this, but says he knows that I'm telling the truth. As we leave the area, the cop pulls up to the driveway, with me following. The guy I called the cop on starts motioning me to come talk to him and is approaching the MM. Distracted by him, I pull up to the driveway, with one problem. The cop hasn't moved yet, BAM!:bigcry: Everyone was OK. Thank God. Well, I fill out the papers he gave for the report, he starts running all my info to find out that I'm currently suspended in VA. Due to circumstances, he can't cite me for it, because we are in a private parking lot.:D However; because we are in a private parking lot, and a collision between vehicles has a occured, I'm cited for reckless driving. Fortunately, the officer and his supervisor understand what happened, and told me they would try to get the ticket thrown out at court.:) Hopefully thing go well. Now I gotta replace the right signal lamp on the MM. totally busted. Easy to replace, I hope.

Don't you hate when something goes wrong when you are trying to do the right thing? Sorry to hear that happen. A friend of mine was given a ticket because he hit a tree with his car because some person coming towards him crossed the line and it was either head on collision or hit the tree. The ticket was thrown out of court when he went.

I just don't understand how you can get a ticket for Reckless driging when you were clearly in a wreck.
Reckless driving is when you were driving like you were going to get in a wreck but you did not get in a wreck.
I suggest you look up the statue and the fact you were not wreckless may allow the judge to toss it.

The officer and his supervisor both told they knew what led up to the accident and would speak on my behalf and have the judge dismiss it if possible. As far as reckless driving goes, it was cited, and at my own admitting of, that I wasn't paying attention to what was ahead of me. I really didn't getting a citation for the accident itself.

Just like what happened to my friend, the state trooper had to issue him a ticket but said it would be dropped at court/

With all that in mind i don't understand why he cited you in the first place.
'Here is a citation, and I'll help you fight it in court'

I don't believe them for a minute - the officer issues a ticket for "reckless" driving then tells you he understands what happened? He also tells you nothing happened re. the guy beating that woman? Maybe the officer has to cite you for something to cover himself re. the accident (which was not his fault) but charge you with reckless driving? It's was an accident caused by you - possibly fearing the person you reported to the cops, no? No charges, just an accident. Hate to say it, but if that is how it all played out an attorney may be called for in this case - it is just too strange. Good luck.
Glad to hear that no one was hurt and the damage was MINOR.

Is there no Following Too Closely statute in VA? Reckless Driving in NYS is a criminal offense and fairly difficult to prove.

Take those off, being really careful not to drop them as they're hard to retrieve (ask me how I know). The lamp housing then simply pulls out.

Found out from the Virginia DMV that my driving privileges has been suspended since February of 2005. And they want me to pay a $500 fee before they will reinstate my privileges here. Thing I can't figure it is I wasn't even in this state in 2005. I had transferred from here to California in November of 2004 and registered my car there, insurance, etc. I transferred back to Virginia in September of 2007. So, how the hell can I be suspended? I don't even have a Virginia driver's license, its from Texas.
next time just shoot the woman who's getting the beat-down and call it a day. :shake:

The officer had to prove to his supervisor and those "In charge" that he in no way was responsible for the destruction of city/state property...thus the harsh ticket. They know it will be thrown out, but the inquiry and report will be filed by then and the immediate reprocussions for the officer will be avoided. Charges will be dropped so no need to worry...that's why they gave you that ticket...get it?

Did you have a ticket you didn't answer? They should have told you why your operating privleges are suspended.

Supension of driving privileges was due to insurance monitoring. I had transferred to Cali and got a Cali Insurance policy so that I could register my vehicle there as well. Cali has no obligation to report to VA that I have a policy there. So when I cancelled my policy in VA, they reported that I no longer have coverage, hence the suspension. I just recently transferred back here to VA and with Wednesday's incident is how I found out that I was suspended. Not to worry though, things have been cleared up, and I'm back behind the wheel again, THANK GOD! Two days without driving my baby was tough.
