Has anyone found the answer, besides powdercoating?

The OEM wheels already have clearcoat on them so u can use a scotch bad a rough up the clear so the paint will adhere and i would use UA and then reclear. I have done this with a couple costomers wheels and no problems. Never to my own though.

Do you have any pictures of the finished product by any chance?

And forgive my ignorance, but what's "UA?"

UA is the same color that is on the car (UA) is the paint code. That is what i would use if i were to do mine. You could use a flat black but it will not hold up as well. I will put some pics up tomorrow.

You could paint the wheels flat black then clear them with a flat or satin clear, that way the wheel and the paint is protected.

If their going to be black then they need to be Black Chrome!

IMHO... the shiney rims help make the MM what it is.... flat black or black

When I had mine Chromed, Black Chrome was not yet "perfected" on AL.

They make a 18X8 wheel for the Mustang that is black with a silver lip, looks great and I have them on my Marauder:)

Not as flat as ours (spokes) that is.

Bigdogjim, can you post a pic? Or are they already in the gallery?

Check out William's ('BIGHOUSE') profile, he has a sweet set of aftermarket rims;

Black spokes with a polished rim!

When you say FLAT black, are you suggesting a finish that one might obtain from a rattle can of 'flat black' spray paint?

Mine are no where near shiny, but also no where near 'flat'.

I used powdercoat, which holds up far better that rattle can, on wheels that were dipped in acid first, powdered, and baked inside out.
The color is quite simple. Corvette black. Matches nicely.

These pics are from 2003. The wheels have since degraded in shine from road rash over the years. Those awfull decalls are long gone as well.:P

Just out of curiosity, could you get vinyl to cover the spokes? That way you could undo it if you wanted to. They seem to be able to cover NASCAR cars with vinyl or whatever instead of painting them.

There is also a light grey lower body stripe on my car. Steve Babcock called it the "concept stripe" when he saw it at MV-I why back them:up:

Wheels are from Ford, mustang 18X8 only needed a 1/4 spacer in the front. Center caps so far have stayed put.

The painted rims are real nice. That's what I want to do to mines. Keep the factory rims and tires on.Streets in DC have to many potholes.
