my marauder is over heating as soon as i start driving. i know that the thermostat could cause this but i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it could be some kind of vacuum, leak cause i had a taurus a couple years ago and this plastic line broke and made the car overheat. if u have any info for me let me know what you think..

Ford focus had the same problem the vacuum hose would rub thru on the fire wall causing the engine to run lean and overheating. That would after a little while cause engine failure. Its prolly the same thing on the taurus. I dont think its the same problem with the marauder.

i would go with a defective thermostat.

either you got air in the coolant line somehere, or you have a thermostat stuck shut. try bleeding the air, if that dont work change the thermostat

If the coolant has not been low, then I would replace the TS and be sure to bleed the system when done.

My car was doing the same thing when I first purchased it, it turned out the thermostat was bad. I bought a 180* stat from Dennis and bled the system....havent had the problem since. Be sure you bleed the system or it might continue to overheat.

Definately sounds like t-stat failure.
It's really easy to replace in the MM. Almost too easy. Just pay attention to the orientation when replacing.
The most difficult part is bleeding air afterward.
EVERYONE struggles a bit with this one.
This car is notorious for this issue.
PLEASE read threads here, find them using search with key words 'overheating', 'thermostat', 'bleeding system', etc....
Explainations and tricks are abundand, and with this info you will avoid that "still overheating" dilemna.
Good luck, and :welcome:

I had a similar problem with a ford taurus. It ended up to
be a head gasket. Causing an air pocket in the cooling
system. bleed the air out of the cooling system and top
up the coolant. monitor the coolant level.
If the problem keeps reccurring you may
have to look further into a coolant leak or head gasket.

No body mentioned this but do you have coolant?
I appear to have missed Dennis talking about coolant.

thanks for your input everybody. yea the coolant is full. im thinkin that the thermostat is stuck shut, but i showed it to my mechanic and he said that the pressure release for the water pump shot out and that it might be the water pump. i was wondering if the mm has a pressure release on the top of the water pump or if he might just be try to get me to pay him to fix the water pump.

its called a weep hole.... almost every car has one... i bet the MM does (ive never looked) if the weep hole is wet than its time for the WP change.
Do you have heat? if you dont then you have air in the line. if you do its the T-stat, or WP
I will help narrow it down. if your car is cold, your start it, get going down the road and it gets hot within 5-10 blocks or so... then you got air in the line.
If your car is cold, you start is, get going down the road, and the car does not start overheating untill it reaches normal temp that the thermostat opens (about where the temp needle sits normally when fully warmed up) then it is probably the T-stat, or possibly the Water pump.

My car started overheating at idle but ran normal while under way. I discovered that the electric fan would start to kick on and vibrate with a shot bearing, then would shut down.
Not your problem, but someone reading this thread might find this useful.
If I remember correctly, Ford wanted about $450 for the fan, I found one at an OEM reseller for about $250.
